Hi,

I've read the three reviews here on the geek, and I've decided to get this game. I do have some questions though, in no particular order:

- It seems there is a deluxe, and expanded and a basic version of the game. Are there any differences other than the number of boxed miniatures of each type of plane (and their associated ADC's)? For instance, do you get more types of aircraft with the deluxe version? The Ad Astra site makes it sound as if the deluxe tutorial is different somehow.

- The big question about the above questions is this - the deluxe version is quite a bit more expensive than the basic, is it worth it?

- Related question, is it possible to upgrade from the basic to deluxe version somehow, or do I have to stick with what I bought?

- I've read about PBEM, but I'm wondering how that works. Is there a program similar to vassal for this game (or wargameroom, cyberboard, etc.)? Or is that handled by people just emailing their maneuvers back and forth?

- In the time since the game's release, I understand that there has been a great deal of errata and such posted. Is there a good "one stop shop" where I'll be able to find that information?

- I see Airborne Alert is available, does anyone know about Reinforcement Pack A?

Thanks for any help!

As far as I know, the most important "upgrade" that come with the deluxe version is a tutorial book that is color coded correlating to the play aids

Re upgrade from basic to deluxe: You can purchase each component separately from the company that distributes the game. On their website, all of the different parts are presented and price. So, you could purchase the color coded tutorial separately, although I do not recommend it as a revised version is in the works.

Errata http://www.airbattle.com/Birds_of_Prey/Support.html

Re PBEM: no vassal or cyberboard that I am aware of. Just email back and forth. Surprisingly, it works well.

Oh, I forgot the most important question of all - how well does this game solo?

Thanks!

well, It will have to pass its instrument checkride first

seriously, I think it does so quite well. There can be a lot of thinking taking place, but it is quite possible to play each plane to its full potential

I have not played it solo yet as I am just learning, but I think it should play solo as well as PBEM.
Also, the new expansion has some solo scenarios.

Yes, I noticed that, so I'm buying the expansion too.
