The rules for three new games for Four Operations are now available in the files section.
Ant Colony is a card-laying game with a puzzlelike feel. Players try to build their ant colony and store enough food for it before winter comes. As a math game, it is useful for practicing simple expressions that often involve negative numbers. It can be played solo or cooperatively and requires some strategic thinking.
Mountain Climber is a 2-player game in which players try to capture cards by playing an expression that equals exactly 1 more than the expression currently on the table. They must plan ahead, however, as they may only draw new cards when they empty their hand or when either player "busts" and is unable to play.
Walking on Clouds is a race game in which players attempt to be the first to reach Cloud 9 by walking or hopping across clouds, while trying to avoid clouds that are raining. The game is for 2-3 players, with a solitaire variant. The rain cards provide a "take that" element in the multiplayer game. As a math game, Walking on Clouds encourages flexible manipulation of numbers as players try to figure out the best way to use their cards to make expressions. There is incentive to use multiplication to make larger numbers, as it can allow a player to skip a cloud by "hopping" to the next one.
Mountain Climber and Walking on Clouds could be adapted for more players by combining two decks.
