Just mulling over the rules for 2nd ed. in preparing for my first game. I have played the AH Blackbeard many times. I don't like the idea of weedy KCs and Warships. So the question is whether to +2 or not. Would the following variant work as a historically realistic compromise?
If the pirate accepts combat willingly then he has to fight with the KC/Warship at +2.
If the pirate tries to escape and fails then he must fight with the KC/Warship at +2 if the speed of the KC/Warship is the same or higher than the speed of the pirate. If the pirate tries to escape and fails then he fights with the KC/Warship at printed strength if the speed of the KC/Warship is lower than the speed of the pirate.
