The man with the green spiked hair and goatee looked at them one last time. "All you have to do, is get out alive. First team out, wins a million dollars." With that, the man let out an evil laugh, and the ground rumbled with the thunder from the sky. The only thing missing was the lightning. Suddenly, it began to rain. All the competitors ran below the castle of Finstere Flure.

Jean Jodin had hired JJ and JD to be on his team, the team he dubbed the Dream French Canadian race team. Certainly these guys had a good pedigree behind them racing cars, but racing the unknown was not their forte. Trevor Brooks had hired Tim and Tom to be his victims teammates. Greg Nicholas's team was composed of Grep and Gruel, two guys he found lifting garbage can lids outside the castle. Craig Viau hired Cornelieus and Connor to be on his team. Gary Baziuk was thinking outside the box, and recruited a pet dog, affectionately called Garp and an unsuspecting man named Garfield. Don Smith had hired Dominick and Dave. Norbert, meanwhile had decided that brains, not brawn was going to win this competiton and hired a woman, Nancy, along with her co-worker Nobby.

Unbeknownst to Norbert, Nobby was a jealous man. Nobby had been passed over for promotion, laid off more times than he could count, and was just doing time for his pension. He admired and hated Nancy. She was a smart, high energy woman, with shoulder length blond hair, and was on the fast track to management. Nobby suspected she slept her way up to the top and resented the fact that Nancy got all the attention. Nobby had a nefarious plan to get rid of her once and for all and the secret lay below the castle walls.

As everyone flooded into the dungeon below, the entranceway clanged down after them with an ominous bang. They all looked at each other. This was not part of the script. Here they were, twenty one individuals, in a dark dungeon, with boulders everywhere, a long pool of blood to the east of the dungeon and another large pool of blood to the south of the dungeon. It was smelly, as if a large carcass of some animal had been dragged about. "This is easy", exclaimed Don. "The exit is on the othe side." Indeed, the exit was just diagonally opposite to where they had entered, about three hundred meters away. Then they heard the sounds. The shuffling sound of a large beast could be heard, a pause, and a guttural growling sound was heard. "Oh no, we're all going to die", cried Tom, despondently and presciently. The stench in the room was unbearable.

Tim pushed a boulder aside to get a clearer view of the creature that was coming closer to them. Suddenly, a triumphant growl could be heard directly south of where everyone had entered the room. Grep, Garp and JD had a first glimpse of the creature. It was a large mishappen hunchbacked beast, lumbering forward with two arms forward, it's face distorted showing only one good eye. It moved, then looked left, straight and right. As it looked straight, everyone cleared out of it's field of vision. They did not realize the creature could move so fast. Garp the poodle looked like it was going to be it's first victim/snack as the beast lumbered north, but suddenly it veered to the left. Tom was standing there all alone. "No, no..." were Tom's last desperate cries. The sound of teeth and rending of flesh reverbated throughout the dungeon. A grotesque burp was heard from the creature. "Feed me," it uttered. "Feed me." Tim stood behind the boulder, paralyzed with fear. Perhaps if he stood very still, the creature wouldn't notice him. Tim, panting heavily, tried to slow his breathing. He realized he was breathing too loud when the creature was almost on top of him. The creature came at him with both limbs outstretched. Tim looked at the creature, unable to cry or breathe. The stench from the creature's mouth was overpowering him and it appeared to Tim just by looking at the eye of the creature, that it appeared sad. Tim didn't put up any resistance, and did not even raise an arm to protect himself. Tim weakly held out his right wrist, as if that would be enough to ward off the creature. The creature pounced on top of Tim like a lion on a baby Thompson's gazelle, but unlike the wild where the prey is swallowed at leisure, Tim, or what was left of him was swallowed in large chunks. A guttural cry of satisfaction was heard as the creature continued pushing the boulder.

Nobby was watching this and soiled his pants. Not once, but twice. Nobby had helped in the construction of this creature, the one he called "Igor". Nobby had fed him and cared for him, but he had only fed Igor green vegetables. He did not know Igor had mutated into this flesh eating beast that appeared to be never satiated. The beast spotted Nobby. "Master, master", it cried. Nobby first thoughts were of surrendering, maybe using his not so white underwear as a flag, the universal sign of surrender. By now, Nobby's pants were around his ankles from the weight of his excrement. "No, Igor, no" and Nobby pointed weakly towards Nancy's last known positon. Nobby did what other human would have done. He ran. He ran faster than he ever had in his whole life, with his pants around his ankles, faster than when he was wearing track pants.

It was Garp who showed everyone the way. The poodle barked twice at the beast and slid in the long pool of blood, and ended up hundred metres north of the exit. Gary followed his poodle, so did Craig and Greg. Norbert looked at his surroundings. Here he was, a 5'9", 148 pound nearsighted Asian man, with a lower back sprain trying to outwit a hungry monster in dungeon. He was glad his pants were still on, since the back pain wouldn't allow him to put his pants on one leg at a time. He had found this out the hard way at the doctor's office when she asked him to drop his pants. The only thing was, she was a ear, nose and throat specialist, and Norbert, for the life of him couldn't figure out why he needed his pants dropped, except, maybe it was for an urine sample. But Norbert wasn't thinking about that when he slid into the other pool of blood to head to the south side of the room. That was where Don and Dominik were slinking about. Don, in his younger days, was a dodgeball champion, mostly by hiding against the side of the wall when the balls were flying fast and furious, and he was parlaying that experience by staying to the south side of the wall.

Suddenly, the gates of the entrance could be heard to open again. In came, Tony and Terry, two replacements hired by Trevor! Trevor had surreptiously called out on his cell phone to get two replacements! Faced with this deception, Jean made a feint and the beast lumbered back towards the exit where everyone was scurrying about. Greg was the first one out of the dungeon. As the beast lumbered towards the exit, Cornelieus was caught. Except Cornelieus was not eaten like the others. Now Igor was solely hunting for sport, a sign of it's cunning intelligence. Nancy was using Cornelieus as a shield, but with the shield gone, she was alone in front of the beast. It was Nancy's quick insticts that saved her. She went to the right of the beast. Now it was Nobby's turn to save the day. Nobby knew something that the others didn't. Nobby knew the beast had a blind spot, if there was someone to it's left and right, it would get confused and continue lumbering straight. Nobby, soiled pants down and all, decided he had one last redeeming feature in him. He plunked himself to the left of the creature. "Don't move Nancy", he cried and the creature lumbered between them. Nancy felt a limb of the beast brush against her hair and Nobby felt a limb scrape against his exposed thigh. "Are you just happy to see me?" asked Nancy to Nobby and she laughed gaily.

The monster went forward, through the walls and suddenly reappeared near the entrance again. Trevor was cursing his luck again. Once the monster vacated the exit, it was easy for everyone to rush out. Craig and Connor rushed out the same turn, giving the grand prize to Craig's team. Gary and Garp were close behind, followed by Don and Dominik, while Nobby and Nancy were close to the exit as well.

Bravo!
An excellent story/report, Norbert! I was spellbound by the tension and your storytelling style. Which, of course, means I have to consider getting this game!
