...before missing a game?

This is obviously a follow-up to the fine journal topic of "How many of the Top 100 games do you own?"

This question has two parts:

The first part is, how many, in a row, do you have from the the #1 game on down before you don't have the next game listed?

The second part of the question is, how far down the list can you go before you hit a game you haven't played?

Part 1 Answer: I own every game down through, but not including, Goa... so my answer to part one is: 12 (I used to own Goa, but I traded it away.)

Part 2 Answer: I have played PR and E&T, but I have not yet played War of the Ring, so my answer here is: 2 (If not for War of the Ring, I could get all the way dwon to 10, Age of Steam, before I slipped up. Damnable hot titles!)

In Summary - 12 & 2 are the answers, the answers are 2 & 12.

How far down the list can I go before I hit a game I don't own? Try ZERO. In fact, I don't even hit a game I do own until I get to 9.

How far can I go before I hit a game I haven't played? Two. I wonder if I'll ever have the time to try War of the Ring....

I own five of the top ten.

War of the ring will probably never make it into my collection despite my love of games and also of the Tolkein franchise- no one in my gaming group would last through it. 3 hours is absolute tops.

My official answers are 21 and 2. (I fiddled with War of the Ring solitaire, but didn't actually play it.) However, I own 41 of the top 50, and I've played 32.

Own? 8. I used to own Wallenstein, but not any more.

Played? 30. I've played 89 of the top 100 though. I got hammered by Robo Rally, over a third of the games I haven't played were Robo Rally-related.

I own the top 11 , but have yet to play die Macher.

I won die Macher off a prize table and have yet to organize a dedicated session to playing the classic.

More ways to get Aragorn:

Play dead men of Dunharrow, to move him from Rohan to Pelargir, kicking out an army there, recruiting guys to protect him. Then rown him.

Play Path of the Woses on a Rohan army to move them to gondor, free a region like MT or elargir, then crown him. (Especially if strider is in the rohan army to start with).

Middle of the Road
Would love to be around 150, but the cold, harsh reality is...

Own: 6 - Don't have Power Grid... yet.

Played: 0 - Sad, but true. I've never played Puerto Rico.

but...

Like many others, I have played a great number of the top 100 and I own 55 of them.

Biggest gaps in the collection?
- OOP titles (Age of Steam, Up Front, Advanced Civ., Dune, Hannibal, Gamut of Games, etc)
- ASL and expansions (~8 'games' in top 100, last checked).
- Expansions in general (Clash of Kings, Bonzai, etc)

Speaking of expansions... Sure would be nice if pure expansions weren't listed as stand alone games. Would be nicer if expansions were listed with their parent game. Would be better if the expansions could be tracked and rated along with their parent game. Would be great if a game could show its rating and the ratings of its expansions.

Something along the lines of...

- ASL : 7.54283
|-+ 1. Beyond Valor : 7.68776
|-+ 2. Paratrooper : 7.47760
|-+ 3. Yanks : 7.64067
|-+ 4. Partisan : 6.98244
|-+ 5. West of Alamein : 7.25492
|-+ 6. Last Hurrah, The : 7.09619
|-+ 7. Hollow Legions : 7.04936
|-+ 8. Code of Bushido : 7.45333
|-+ 9. Gung Ho! : 7.40262
|-+ H1. Red Barricades : 7.61853
...

Would be best if the top list could exclude expansions all together, or perhaps include the option to list a parent game by it's highest rating (including expansions). Thus ASL would show up only once as...

#37 :: ASL (w/expansion: Beyond Valor) - 7.68776

Expansions
I agree that the expansions showing up in the top 100 lists are kind of a pain in the A.

It's kind of like having to say "I'd like two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun" instead of just saying "give me a Big Mac".

It's nice to see the ratings of the expansions and see if they actually are good enough to contribute anything useful to the base game but having them somewhere other than the main list would be more effective and less cluttered in my opinion.

A separate list of all expansions would be one way...or grouping them with the base game in a clickable subfolder style as others have suggested would be the best and least cluttered solution.
