This is the 101st Play-By-Forum Battlestar Galactica game. It will follow the format established by ColtsFan76. It is a 5-player, European Base Game.

This game is by invite only. The waiting list is being maintained at the BSG PBF Wiki.

The crew consists of the following players:
Mr T 1977
oliverst
Garou
dragonster
Xodan

The rules of the game are pretty much as in all the other threads. If this is your first BSG PBF game, please read through at least one of the previous games to get a feeling for how it is done. For a good example of a 5-player base game, take a look at BSG 56 - Battlestar Isoroku, which is my favorite amongst the games in which I participated.

Some particular notes for those taking part (you can find more notes and tips on nbergom's geeklist Tips and Tricks of BSG PBF):

1) SUBSCRIBE TO THIS THREAD. And please, login at least once a day, preferably more.

2) All players must have their own copies of the game as I am only going to publish card titles (this is an FFG request).

3) Private communication will be by geekmail between me and particular players, all other communication will be by posting in this thread. Please start your geekmail subject line with "BSG 101" and your character name.

4) To speed up the game, please use Conditional Orders (i.e., geekmail me what you will do if certain circumstances arise). CO's are particularly useful for interrupts, such as Evasive Maneuvers. I will not wait for rare occurrences (e.g., a player using a Strategic Planning on a basestar attack or a viper attacking a raider, or a player using his OPG) unless I have received a CO to that end, or if I feel that discussions in the thread warrant it.

5) Please use the following posting conventions:
* Normal text for dicussions.
* Italics for flavour texts.
* Bold for in-game moves and actions. I won't process any decisions/actions unless bolded in the thread or I receive them in geekmail.
Please do not post any spoilers for the televsion series in the thread.

6) There is no need to change your avatar to match your character. However, I would like you to make clear in each post who your character is by posting a banner at the top of your post. Great banners created by DukeOfEarl are available here (use the "medium" option to display them). If you find using a banner is too much of a hassle (or you are on your phone), at least list your character name in bold at the top of your post.

For flavour, a useful selection of character pictures is hosted on this geeklist by GerryRailBaron, though by all means provide your own if you wish.

The geeklist for this game is found here.

Note that this is my first time as a moderator, so I might need a bit of time to get up to speed. If I make any mistakes during the game, please don't hesitate to correct me.

The title of this game has been set to Garou's suggestion, "Mockingbird", after Herodes Atticus' birth year. For my moderator banner I will still use the idea I had when I considered using Orwell's 1984 (Room 101) as an inspiration. I rejected 101 Dalmatians' "Pongo" as being too clownish.

Finally, my thanks to DaveD, of whom I copied about half the text of this post. And for being my first BSG PBF mod.

Welcome Tyler. I know from the specifications on the Waiting List that you want a European game, but you do not have a country listed. I would be interested to know where you're from.

Aha, I just meant I'd prefer if everyone wasn't across the world from me. I'm in the Eastern US (NY) but will be in Alabama (Central US Time) come August 22-May 23rd.

Re: BSG 101 - Mendelevium
Wait, Tyler. That means you are not in Europe, which means that everybody WILL be at the other side of the world. You had a wrong indication on the waiting list. And, as I indicated, I really want this to be a European game. So, let me put you back on the waiting list for now (without the E). Should I be unable to get sufficient crew members together for a full European crew, I'll get back to you. OK?

In the meantime, Mr T 1977 wrote me that he likes to play, but will be unavailable this week. I have no problems with that, the game is unlikely to start before the end of the week, and I asked him to send CO's for character picks so we can get that process started.

Pieter, you know I'm in - even though I didn't really expect another game this soon. I didn't check the Wiki yet, but I trust this is okay and fair? Don't want to skip any lines.

You're not skipping, I gave preference to people who specified a European Base Game. Everybody who wasn't located in Europe I skipped, and everybody who demanded a Pegasus game I skipped. That did not leave many...

The alternates preferred a European Pegasus game.

Thanks for the update, Glingo. Happy holidays! (You may wish to indicate your vacation time on the Waiting List, or you'll get another invitation soon).

This means the first of our two alternates (lowest on the Waiting List) is in. Welcome, dragonster. Xodan might make it too, if pirikou does not respond tomorrow.

In the meantime, any suggestions for the game's name? I am seriously considering "Pongo", but maybe you guys find that too whimsical.

Pongo is fine with me...but...WTF is Pongo?

How about "BSG Jupiter"?
One of the Jupiter's moons is "Europa"...which is not "Europe"...but it is close enough.

Anyway...whatever name you pick is fine with me.

Also, let me introduce myself. My name is Oliver. I am from Belgrade, 30 years old. I already played one BSG PBF game with Marc (Hi Chief! ) and it was lots of fun.

Pieter, I am sure you will do a great job moderating this game and don't worry if you make any mistake...it's all part of the game.

Pongo is one of the dalmations from 101 Dalmatians.

I'm alright with Pongo for a name, there's nothing wrong with a little whimsy.

Though I am a little suspicious of our mod's loyalty, seeing his avatar (see whimsy is good)

How about 'Mockingbird'?

Spoiler (click to reveal)
101 was the birth year of greek rhetorician Herodes Atticus -> Atticus Finch -> Mockingbird. It's still whimsical, though.

I am currently in BSG 98, where I revealed as a toaster. I change my avatar and banner as needed.

I love 'Mockingbird', by the way.

More mystical than whimsical is "Voodoo" from the F-101, or CF-101 Voodoo...

It is Wednesday now, and pirikou has not responded. I am no longer going to wait on him; I like players to log in at least once a day, and pirikou hasn't done that in the last 10 days. Perhaps he is on holidays.

That means, Xodan, I am happy to welcome you to the crew!

We are going to start the game.

I have not yet received a CO from Maik for his character picks. I have seen him play before, and he is a conscientious player, so I have no worries. I will simply place him in last position, so that the others can choose their characters. Maik told me he hoped to be online again by Friday, thus there is no need to rush the start of the game.

I will post the ordering for the others during the day.

One extra announcement: I will have a couple of slow-downs in October. First, I am going to visit a conference on the US west coast, which means I'll have two traveling days, and will be out-of-sync with the crew for about a week. Second, October has Essen, which I will visit (and I expect some of you will too). Third, I might take a short holiday with my daughter. None of these will halt the game, but, as I said, they might slow it down a bit.

Player order has been determined, and turned out to be as follows:

Garou
Xodan
oliverst
dragonster
Mr T 1977

In order, every player can select a character. You can send me CO's for your pick, but as we are unlikely to start before Friday, just take your time.

With your selection, I also need your first three card draws, except for Garou, who, as first player, will get a full hand.

As soon as you have selected your character, I will (usually) address you by your character name.

Garou, it's up to you, and you have your pick from any Political, Military, Pilot, or Support character.

Welcome aboard, Helo.

...Helo?...

Where the frak is Helo? Don't tell me he remained on Caprica!

Xodan, you're up next. You have your pick from any Political, Pilot, or Support character. I also need your three starting skill cards (which must come from your five regular skill cards). Take your time.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Fleet, this is Gaius Baltar, a scientist, ladies man extraordinarie and occasional dabbler in politics. First and foremost I would like to convey my thanks to Lt. Valerii for rescuing me from the recent nuclear devastion of Caprica..umm..and also her wingman Lt. Aragorn or..umm?..was it Agathon..yes Agathon, who so selflessly gave his spot on the raptor for me. I pledge to use my skills as a scientist for the benefit of the Fleet and it's people. Now if anybody needs me, I'll be at my lab, doing important things of science.

I choose Doctor Gaius F Baltar

I draw 1 Politics , 1 Leadership and 1 Engineering.

Now that I'm aboard let me introduce myself. I'm Ville from Finland, 28-years old. I've played some 15 games of BSG base game and around 10 games of Pegasus (way too few for my taste, but it's hard to get 5+ people). This is my first PBF game, although I've read several game threads, so be gentle laugh. I'm usually fairly analytical and enjoy heavy/medium euros or hybrids with enough substance. BSG is one of the few games, where I like to mix in some roleplay and PBF seems a perfect format for it. Also pre-thanks to our Mod for making this happen.

(edit: added self-introduction.)

Oh wait...where is Admiral?
On Caprica?
What is he doing there?
Never mind...I am taking command of this vessel...of course only until Helo returns from Caprica.

I choose Lee "Apollo" Adama.
