Several eurogames will end with scores above 50 or 100+ VP. What I don't like about it, is that even if you make a very clever move it will be "drowned" in the mass of points at game end. I like to see a tangible result for good plays, where most actions will be mirrored in the finale score.

Also, high scores often give a false impression of blow out when the score ends something like 163 to 119 to 106. I find that low scores gives the feeling of close games and add suspense when there's no more than a 2-3 VP gap between the players all game long.

There are a few examples of low scoring games that i can think of: Loyang, Ingenious and Tigris & Euphrates.

What other games have final low scores?

Play Dominion with a bunch of curse-giving cards. Low scores aplenty.

All games have low final scores. You just have to insert decimals at the proper spot. Unless you or your fellow gamers are scared off by fractional points

I swear I read your OP! My eyes crossed or something. I was going to put Loyang, saw it listed, and thought of Ingenious. Oh well, it's Friday, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

What about Ingenious?

Kidding aside, other abstracts often have low scoring games. Also, you may want to consider games that don't have a score they just have a victory condition like Chess or Hive.

Washington's War is a game that (assuming no automatic victory) requires the control of 6 or 7 of the original 13 colonies (well actually 14 since Canada is counted as a colony for scoring purposes). The end game is usually quite close.

Sticheln, although a card game, usually ends in very low scores. Sometimes hard to get positive numbers for everyone. If you play the variant with double misery suits, you're just asking for a beating.

Chaos in the Old World has low scores as 50 VPs wins you the game. I think your questions is more interesting if thinking of games that have no automatic win at a fix VP number but STILL end with rather low scores (such as your example T&E). Thurn and Taxis would qualify.

This certainly doesn't speak to euro-games, but I recently learned a standard card game called Oh Hell!, where it seems you are doing well to be in positive points! On the other hand, scores of -50 or more seemed to be fairly common.

Otherwise, I second the mention of Dungeon Lords. You definitely feel like you've earned each little point in DL.

Also, Battlelore, most scenarios have you play until someone reaches 6 VP.

In Kahuna, you get the following number of VP per round:

- Round 1, majority of stones: 1 VP
- Round 2, majority of stones: 2 VP
- Round 3, majority of stones: VP equal to the difference in number of stones (typically no more than 3 or 4)

A clever play carefully timed near the end of the round can net you some VPs.

Pardon? Are you playing it correctly? It is a cause for celebration if you win with a score in single digits. I know that negative scores are possible, as some have reported getting them, but in dozens of games I am yet to see one - I think that a 5 or 6 is the lowest we have seen.

I also find that playing with gamers leads to much higher scores due to other players taking your needed cards intentionally. While I have finished with a -2 score once that is the only time I have ever seen it done and amongst my gaming group winning scores are sometime in the 40's or higher.

While playing with my family, where it is much more friendly, the winning scores never top 10.
