Ok, this is a cry for help. If you are a boardgamer in the Northern VA area and would like to share the holy secrets of playing Magic Realm with a new player, drop me a line. I keep looking for games that will give me the thrill of Magic Realm without the hassle. It has been suggested in some quarters that this is not enough. Well...maybe they're right and I just need to play MR.

After all, I am the Black Knight.cool

MR is an overrated burden of rules. It provided tons of late night reading and a healthy profit on eBay, but very little in terms of 'fun'.

Disagree. Well, the "tons of reading" part is right, but it is a tremendously fun game if you can through that.

Unfortunately, I don't live in the Virginia area.

Magic Realm is a ton of fun to play. It's easy to knock it if you don't understand the rules, but once you get the system down, it is a blast. We wore out our first set and had to pick up a replacement.

Unfortunately, Northern VA is a long walk from Kansas

But here are some ideas:

* Downloading the 3rd edition rulebook and the "Least You Need to Know" booklet will make learning the game easier.

* There are several PBEM games that have been left online specifically as learning resources for beginners. Stepping through a PBEM game turn by turn is not as good as having someone sitting at the table with you to explain things... but it's better than nothing.

* There's a new Magic Realm Wiki site that is being built. We hope that it will become a lively meeting place for Magic Realm enthusiasts (but that remains to be seen). You could get the "Opponents Wanted" page started off by putting your request there.

And if you have specific questions, feel free to send me a personal message.
