I am a little confused. I have recently found this site and am becoming very interested in games other than wargames. This site is perfect from what I have read but I am still not clear on the rules of posting. Are you to post games that you would like to trade for or is this considered bad etiquette?

Trading is great!
There is a section on the tabs above marked "TRADES." You'll find many people looking to trade games! Welcome to the Geek!

Can open... worms everywhere... you'll find a very distinct division of opinions on the matter here, and it really is right about down the middle. No real answer - it's basically your choice. My advice, if you feel like deflecting some of the complaints, go ahead and post your games to trade on your journal/in a geeklist (the admins seem to have allowed these up until now), if you want to play nice in the cyber sandbox, limit your trading to the trade feature.

trade good!
Hey and welcome aboard,

Things've gotten a little buggy around here the last week or so, don't worry, it'll smooth out.

Trades are definitely ok around here. If you go to your profile, you will see on the upper right a 'find trades' button. It will search for people who have games that you have listed as 'wants' and want games you have listed as 'trades'. You can pick one and click make a trade offer.

Alternatively, you can go to the pages of games you want, click on the number beside 'people with this game to trade' and click on *their* wants to see if you have anything you would trade for the game you want. Send the person an email to offer a trade....

Some people try looking for trades by writing in their journals, which I'm not bothered by, but would see as a last resort if the first two methods aren't going anywhere. Some people have been using the geeklists for generating trades, which is controversial to say the least!

Best of luck finding trades and enjoy bgg...have a click on my profile, and click on the games I have for trade, perhaps I've got something you'd like to trade for?

Robin

Depends on who reads it
There is a trade feature available in your Collection section. Each game entry that you log has a spot for you to indicate willing to trade. You can use the find trade feature to compare these games with people who are trading games on your want list. If you use the "propose trade feature" you may or may not get a response.

Some people find this frustrating and slow, so they use journals or geeklists to get a faster return on their trade proposals. This annoys some people. Other people will read it and trade with you. So you decide.

Personally, as long as you delete the Geeklist after your trade, I can't see why anyone cares. And it is your own journal after all, so if you want to post it there go ahead. If it's labeled with something about "Trading" in it, then anyone who is annoyed doesn't have to read it now do they.

4 Replies in 60 seconds...
Of course, 4 replies in great, but I can also post a journal entry with some "unique" content, and only get a couple of replies in 3 days.

(Maybe self promotion is the key!)

It's a pretty finicky place at times...

trades...and tirades
robot...if you noticed, there is ONLY the inclusion or exclusion of one 'letter' seperating THESE from each other, but somehow-and especially HERE-they seem to 'draw upon' one another! I believe and ADVOCATE the 'using' of the Geeklists for 'trades' as it allows the EXACT, specific, name & game to be 'featured' and WHY not give an indication of what YOU would 'like' in exchange for EACH of them that you 'list'? So go ahead, the people that don't CARE for this can just avoid them! I mean if THEY are 'anti-socialists' to begin with, then don't be 'socializing' in the first place, right? THEN once this is over with, they should be DELETED along with 'some' of the other MORE 'legit' ones as far as I'm concerned! Don't forget that YOU can also EDIT the 'nay-sayers' out of these too, and DO it with 'reckless abandon'! Ya betcha!

Grognads, let's see if I've got this straight...you advocate for the use of geeklists for trades, but are opposed to the use of them for tirades?

Market Force
I say, use all the tools of a free market until that option: a) is no longer useful, b) is no longer available, or c) you get fed up defending why you chose to use it in the first place

...so what you mean is: corner the market, intimidate your competitors, bring in scab labour, and if all that doesn't work, send in the mob?

You might also be interested in the BGG marketplace, where you can deal in cash rather than trades (links are available on the front page, upper left corner).
