So, I’m trying to create my own Best of Black Sabbath from the classic First Four albums, and I need your help in filling out a single CD of 80 minutes. Here are the cuts that have made it so far.

War Pigs
Paranoid
Iron Man
Faires Wear Boots
Sweet Leaf
Laguna Sunrise
Black Sabbath
Behind the Wall of Sleep
NIB

Here’s a poll with all the remaining cuts. Choose as many as you think are worthy. Thanks!

Poll
Which of the following cuts should I also include as a Best of the First Four? (choose as many as you deem worthy)
The Wizard
Evil Woman
Sleeping Village
Warning
Planet Caravan
Electric Funeral
Hand of Doom
Rat Salad
After Forever
Embryo
Children of the Grave
Orchid
Lord of this World
Solitude
Into the Void
Wheels of Confusion (including The Straightener)
Tomorrow's Dream
Changes
FX
Supernaut
Snowblind
Cornucopia
Laguna Sunrise
St. Vitus Dance
Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes

you put Laguna Sunrise in the poll, but is in the first list too.

I agree its a great song, I wish I knew how to play guitar to play that song.

Oops, missed that. blush Yeah, ignore Laguna Sunrise; it's already a shoo-in.

No Wicked World? That's my favorite from the first.

I have a soft spot for Hand of Doom, but you already have too many from the second.

Based on consensus, Children of the Grave would be the other pick from MoR, but Into the Void is the classic for me (I like their stoner sound the best).

V4 is my favorite Sabbath release, and Laguna Sunrise is a poor rep. Being a stoner fan, Wheels of Confusion, Under the Sun, and Snowblind are all classic, but my choice for a Best Of would be Supernaut for its great energy. I would also add Tomorrow's Dream for being short and sweet.

So, I voted for Into the Void, Supernaut, Tomorrow's Dream, and a writein for Wicked World.

I've listed the European edition of their debut. It looks like "Wicked World" was included in the original American edition. Thanks for the heads up; I'll consider including it.

I'm not seeing that on the first four albums. Was it on a special edition?

Interesting! A quick look at the cassette release information @ rateyourmusic.com confirmed your information.

It's on their sixth album Sabotage, which is a great record that gets very little respect (or mention, ever). Imagine if Sabbath tried to do their own version of Yes's Close to the Edge.

I reckon I don't need to tell this crew that Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a timeless classic, and is probably my fave (tied with Vol. 4, maybe?).

Not on the first four (it's on Sabotage), but no Sabs playlist is complete without Symptom of the Universe. Take it from a semi-professional.
