My friend bought me a ticket to see Pendulum, paid for the train to get to Wembly and a hotel for the evening for my birthday and now it's his and I need a GOOD present.

I have 6 days to figure something out, hence soliciting help.

He owns Stone Age, Age of Empires 3 and Revolution, but mostly relies on me buying games to scratch his gaming itch.

He's a big fan of Agricola, Dominion and Warhammer, but is willing to try most games.

Any ideas on a good gift?

If he relies off of you for his gaming fix, watch out for Dominion. I find it is hard to play without desire for the other expansions. Although it is a whirlwind of fun for 2-4 players.

If he likes Warhammer what about a fantasy game like Thunderstone or Arkham Horror?

If he likes a good strategy game have you looked at Puerto Rico?

How many people does he usually game with?
Are you going for similar games or to diversify his collection?

What about a few cheaper games rather than one expensive game?

San Juan, Carcassonne, Citadels.

Hi Jeff,

You mentioned he relies on you buying games does that mean that he does not yet own Agricola (it may be nice to have his own as he can play solitaire if needed) it would make a great present along with animeepls, and, or a gift certificate to FLGS or OLGS to help him start his own collection.

Wish you the best

If he enjoys Stone Age & Age of Empires 3, perhaps give these a look:

Small World (has 3 current expansions, as well)

Cyclades (shiny, new)

Also, the ton o' dominion suggestion is good, too

You say he enjoys Agricola, but you don't mention if he owns it. If not, maybe pic that up for him? If so, maybe get him some Agricola-pimpin' materials (vegemeeples, animeeples, farmereeples, etc.)? Or the expansion?

There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow.

To seek the sacred river Alph, to walk the caves of ice, to break my fast on honey dew and drink the milk of paradise... I had heard the whispered tales of immortality, the deepest mystery, from an ancient book I took a clue.

These might be worth a look;

7 Ages
Giants
Mecanisburgo
Space Hulk (third edition)

Hope you find that "right" gift! Best of luck!

Ah some good ideas.

He's not really a solo gamer so would only wait for me and a few others at mine for the Agricola fix.

Endevour sounds like a good call...

Other thoughts were Shogun or Through the Ages.

We only have 3 or 4 of us that play... one day we'll be brave enough to try Portsmouth on Board.

You could always go for a decent Crokinole board. May be a smidgeon more than he spent, though. But he's worth it, right? I bought a Willard in the UK from Masters: http://www.mastersgames.com/cat/table/crokinole-world-champi.... It seems very expensive at first, but if you do the sums , and remember the transatlantic shipping, it was cheaper, and much quicker, than buying one in North America, and shipping it across the pond. There are also decent board makers in Germany and France.

If you're really looking to impress, perhaps something like War of the Ring Collector's Edition?

If he likes Dominion, I'd suggest Thunderstone. It plays very similarly, but is rich in theme.
