We had a very interested game last night and boy or boy it was a close one.

We owed one of our friend’s dinner and a game night so we invited him over to BSG. He actually gave us BSG as our wedding gift and got us into the series. He was very worried about a game based on a TV show and I advised him I felt the same way before my first game. He actually liked it and did quite well.

Roslin - Neighbors Wife
Boomer - My Wife
Adama - Neighbor (husband)
Cain - Newbie/Friend
Baltar - Me

I tried to advise my Friend to avoid being the Admiral because it throws a bit more at you but he decided he was still up for it.

A little more history I explained to our friend (Cain) how the game is fairly easy to understand the basics after a few turns... the real hard part is being a cylon. I gave him some advice on what he could do if he was a cylon.

Now I wanted to make sure this game wasn't boring. I've introduced people to this game and we didn't get a single attack card or maybe only one. So I used a slight variant (without telling anyone) and I shuffled two cylon attack cards into the top 30 cards to guarantee we would see one or two of them.

The game begins with Roslin using her Office right away. Her visions give us a card without jump prep claiming the other one didn't have it either. It was Missing G4 Explosives. She figured it was a low number and we could hit it. I started with three 1's and was no help. Everyone threw in cards and a big red-4 showed up. Boomer was sent to the BRIG.

Boomer tried to escape the brig and we hit it right on the mark. There was a negative green but I think it came from destiny. Boomer's crisis gave us a jump icon but we failed it. Boomer used her recon to bury the next Crisis.

Adama drew an attack card and four new Raiders took out 3 vipers and the one civilian ship which was a population.

Cain moved to main batteries and easily cleared out the 4 raiders sandwiched between our civilians with a planning. Her crisis gave us a jump prep but it moved two heavy raiders one outside each launch tube.

From there we drew multiple launches more raider icons with no jump prep. I was able to use Command to take out one of the heavy raiders. Boomer was firing almost as well as Starbuck lighting up the sky taking out raiders. Cain even used one of her Nukes and took out 3 raiders with a basestar.

We got to a point where we lost a few more civilian ships and a crisis or two that targeted population. We were down to two civilian ships on the board and 16 raiders. Boomer was the only viper in space between those raiders and our last two civilians her hand empty. If raiders activated the raiders would most likely clear out our two civilians and Boomer as well. I was given an order to jump us. The jump track was at BLUE 3 (-3). Our population at 7. We decided Boomer in Sickbay and two civilians was worth 3 population so we jumped.

The die roll failed and population dropped to 5!!

I advised Cain that distance is usually the best thing but anything that put cylons on the board was bad and that equal fuel for instance is typically bad. I was advising him and he decided Asteroid Field was the best choice. *Face palm* 'Sorry I should have told you that was a bad one but we might be okay'.

We drew a blank!!!

Roslin was able to find Network computers after I escape near execution from a crisis card and we quickly found ourselves at -3. Right before Cain's turn Roslin is able to look at Cain's loyalty card.

She took a long moment thinking and kept shaking her head. I started to stare down our friend to try and get a read. Roslin kept saying she didn't understand but he was in fact a Cylon!!!

IT was not Cain's turn as I gave him his options, "Accuse back, reveal or use your OPG to draw two civilian ships and pick a new destination. Chances are if you want to reveal your OPG would do more damage than your card."

Cain chose to blind jump us at BLUE 4 (-1) Cain drew a population and a population morale dropping us to 3 population and morale was somewhere around 7. She chose Icy Moon and not to risk the raptor as we were around 6 on Food.

Sleeper phase and Boomer moves to the BRIG. Baltar runs to Colonial One in hopes to clam the public with the Press Room. After my move I realized there wasn't anyone to use Admiral Quarters (Adama can't and Boomer in the Brig).

Roslin saved us again with Assassination Plot and our Admiral was executed. The reveal was "Treachery" and Cain moved to the Res Ship. She gave her extra card to Adama right after he was Assigned Mission Specialist.

Boomer attempted to scout and failed (which she has done last turn too) and we were down to 2 raptors (and 3 vipers FYI).

Adama fearing we knew it was him decided to reveal. He didn't send Boomer to Sickbay but caused her to discard 5 cards. Cain used her turn to get a Super Crisis.

I Gaius Baltar became Admiral of the Fleet as humanity gave up hope of the military. I then Declared Martial Law as our current government failed the people as well.

We were able to get Boomer out of the brig and we drew and attack card. Both cylons used their turn to destroy another civilian ship before we were able to escape dropping our population further. Now at 2.

Boomer Auto passed Reunite the Fleet moving us back up to 3.

Super Crisis cards came next and Footage was Transmitted which we passed but the Nukes came next. Which we couldn't stop. Our Population dropped back down to 2.

Our last two jumps were Barren Planet and Remote Planet. We lost another Viper and we were down to 2 vipers and 1 Raptor. Our fuel was at 2, Food dropped to 1, and Morale was at 5 (the turn before I played a speech and my wife said Baltar can inspire anyone, I rolled an 8) and population at 2. I used my turn to lower Morale by one but increase Food.

We saw 2 more attack cards and our jump track moved back one. Our food was raised a bit with a pass of Scouting for Water. Morale was down to 3. I was able to use Preventive Policy and Authorization of Brutal Force (as I laughed hysterically as I made boom noises and removed the raiders off the board) to clean up space with the help of Boomer's Firepower.

It was now the cylons turn and activating Raiders wouldn't net them anything this time. It would set them up and we needed one more jump prep. They decided to go for the Crisis cards and they allowed us to get the jump prep we needed for the win!

The other interesting thing is Roslin buried 1 cylon attack card and Boomer buried about 3 or 4. Talk about most of them in the top!!!

I gather that you didn't use all of the expansion. No Pegasus or New Caprica for example. Did you use the Treachery cards?

Sounds like a lot of fun. Unfortunatally its just a tad over a month until my birthday and my wife is banning any game purchases until then to ensure I don't mess up her plans. I will be buying it though with birthday money if it isn't alreayd part of the plan.

No New Caprica. The rest we used. At some point the Airlock was damaged but we didn't need it. Treachy was very much used. Right from teh start we had Code Blue and knew we didn't have the strength to pass it so we had treachery almost hte entire game.

One minor note: unless they changed it in the Pegasus expansion, neither fleet activation nor jump icons count when the Cylons draw crisis cards.

Umm I believe Jump Icons do count in Pegasus.

They do not count on New Caprica itself.
