Unfortunately, hotel rates and traffic make it all but impossible for a gaming convention to take place in the five boroughs (NYC). The are several Meetup groups that meet in coffee houses and such. www.info@nycmeetup.com

A few cons take place in NJ, CT and Long Island. Here are the websites:

www.dexposure.com - February and July
www.conncon.com - March
www.mepacon.com - May and November
www.connecticon.org - July
www.ubercon.con - November
www.anonycon.com - December

LI - April: http://www.iconsf.org
NYC - Oct http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/

Neither is strictly gaming but plenty of cross-over potential.

Council of 5 Nations, one of the longest running tabletop gaming cons in the US celebrating 33 years of gaming this coming Columbus Day weekend Oct 8-10, 2010 in Schenectady, NY http://www.swa-gaming.org/council. I-Con, which is a fan con, also has a good gaming track as well....http://www.iconsf.org/ held in April.

BTW...since others are throwing out cons in the NE area...

Total Confusion in MA www.totalcon.com which has a very strong boardgame presence for both casual and competitive gamers featuring 10 New England Regional Championships, A settlers of catan world-wide pre-qualifying Championship (winner gets a trip to GenCon for the next round of competitions), Puffying Billy Tournament, on-site boardgame library and more! Yes, I am their cheerleading section! It is something you might enjoy

Good luck and Good Gaming!

NerdNYC is an RPG convention, if that's what you're looking for.

You just missed a Recess on September 11, but they're every three months.

NerdNYC also supports boardgames and often has room for them as well.

I've said it before, but I did in fact work at the last "real" gaming convention in NYC, and the organizers barely made a profit when the hotel tripled the already high insurance fees to begin the negotiations for the next one. Needless to say, they chose to drop it and this is why the closest gaming conventions are in NJ.

I also know that since NYC residents travel all the time, the hotel was not willing to give a lower usage rate for the space because they did not expect to sell many rooms to the attendees. You wouldn't believe how high those rental fees can go!
