I noticed that I didn't use the stalk option in a lot of games. So I started thinking about a house rule for it.
Now I played about 8 to 10 games with the "Haring-Stalk" variant.
Let me explain.

How it's used in the VPG rules:
Place the stalk counter on a ship in the ocean you are currently located. Next turn (week) use will attack this ship with a +1DRM.
(Not quoted from the rules as I don't have them in front of me)
This rule leaves the option open to attack more ships in the same turn.

The Haring-Stalk Variant:
Place the stalk counter on a ship in the ocean you are currently located.
Attack this ship (and only this ship) in the same turn.
You don't have the option to attack an other ship in the same turn.
The attack gains the benefit from the +1DRM as in the standard rules.

benefits:
You get to use your stalk benefits more often then in the standard rules.
Mobility is improved, because you stalk and attack in the same turn.

Down-side:
Using the Haring-stalk variant only let's you attack 1 ship per turn.

Let me know what you think. I started using it quite some games ago and never looked back, so to speak.

Cheers, Haring

I think the "Haring" version is actually the VPG version.

Quote:
7.5 Stalk:...You must immediately fight that ship (and that ship only), but since it was being stalked, you receive a +1 dice roll modifier in combat...

You've been playing correctly all along.

DAMN. I have to pay more attention to the rulebooks in the future.
I wonder what I'm doing right, while I think I'm doing it wrong.

thumbsdown for me....TSSS

Cheers, Haring
