The game description says 2-4, but I can't imagine this would be fun for just two. Sounds like there would be a lot of direct conflict. Would my non-conflict loving wife like this?

I played against my wife on Friday who also doesn't like conflict (unless she's the one dealing it out) and she liked the game but there was some friction since you are directly attacking your opponent. I used that to good effect even though she squeaked out the win.

It works really well with 2 but would be better with 4 I think.

I think this game is great with two people, but if you prefer lots of interaction than four is where it is at. I never hesitate to play this game with my wife. In fact, I have introduced this game to a large amount of gaming snobs (I am one myself) and everyone has loved this game...even if they thought they would hate it. (Man I need to do a review).

I honestly think the approach to a two player game is different than three or four (where you can rely on your other opponents to gang up on the leader) but in a two player game you have to be on your toes. I think two player allowed me to develop better strategies that I could use in 3 and 4 player games so I actually think two player games of Lords of Vegas help out overall strategy.

Part of the game board (the strip) is shut off (The F section) and some people that want even more tension shut off the E section.

I can't recommend this game enough, it honestly is my favorite game that is in the sweet spot between a heavy thick Wallace game and a lighter game like Pillars. It is easy to teach, each to play, there is gambling, there is a great catch up mechanic that actually fits the theme and is not based on some random idea, and while there is some randomness (I like random sometimes) the randomness is part of the theme (Casinos).

I have seen our two-player playtests go two ways:
1) I build on one set of areas on the board and trade you for anything on your side. It's a min-maxing game, highly affected by which cards come up.
2) I punch you in the mouth, you punch me in the mouth, repeat as necessary.

So I'd say that you can play either way, but if one player chooses option 2, that's the one you're going with.

My wife would probably enjoy playing this with two so long as she was winning.

Just to report back, my wife likes the game. She even requested to play it tonight. She plays it smash mouth style to my surprise!

I had far more fun than expected in my only play with 2 players. I intended to just try it out with my game partner and at least show him the ropes, but we ended it liking it more than any other "2P" game we played that night. There is tons of stuff going on with 2P. You own more casinos, you have more money, and therefore are both affected by more card draws and you have more chances to shake things up with huge re-orgs. True, it's a shameless dice-fest with 2, but it's hilarious too. 2P Agricola, it is not.
