Stephen, it's Clem Fandango. Can you hear me?
YES I can hear you Clem Fandango!
We played tonight and played competitively with 4 players.
I initiated the showdown as I was nearly strong enough to fight the werewolf and figured if I didn't I might not get the chance.
The lair card I had was the location of another player. I didn't have enough to buy another card and if I had moved then bought I wouldn't have met the villain.
The showdown took place and I retreated with one wound left and only 4 hit dice (having lost all my allies) and the werewolf had one wound left and 6 dice. I could have fought the last round but on 4-6 hits and werewolf on first strike I decided to go while I still had my weapons.
The other player on the location then wanted to take on the villain and did so winning immediately by taking a hit of 3 then dispatching the werewolf in one throw.
Does this sound right or should the second hero have bought a card and started again?

When you initiate a Showdown, you discard the Lair card you used for it. The next person wanting a Showdown needs to buy/acquire a Lair card of their own, which most likely won't result in a Showdown in the same space.
"To start a
Showdown, the Hero must have a Lair Card, be at
the Location listed on their Lair Card and, instead of
Encountering the Space, pay the cost of Investigation
listed on the Lair Card to start the Showdown." (p. 13)
