When I make a post like this, 90% of the body of my post will be blank because of the user image to the left that is filling out the box. It is big and distracting. Remove it for short posts.

Your user icon represents you, and is much more visually recognizable than a simple username.

I'll take the extra space to make identification of the poster that much easier.

Plus it would be too easy to skip over your post if it were that short. There's a lot of information on the page, and the white space is needed to delineate between posts.

Agreed. And too much text with not enough white space would be hard to read anyway.
