Why would that happen? There is no downside to a ranged attack?

I guess you can sit there and look at each other for a couple of hours...

Lee gets to keep his officer's saber and his horse. President Lincoln gets shot and Andrew Johnson becomes President. laugh

Read the rulebook, plan for all contingencies, and…read the rulebook again.

Then both players have learned a valuable lesson about how deadly combat in the American Civil War was. And it didn't cost you a single drop of blood!

Historically, two opposing armies who just stared across the battlefield at each other, refusing to fight, would have logistical limitations. One would run out of food and water before the other, and therefore yield the field.

Therefore, I suggest you stare at each other across the game table until one of you passes out from lack of food or water, and the last one standing is the winner!

I'm sure the CinC of both sides would replace those Generals very quickly!
We want results, not a sit-and-wait war!!!!

It took Lincoln quite a while to replace McClellan.

Standstills either give one/both players a chance to refresh card hands or result in a Draw (which can be mutually agreed-upon as far as I'm concerned).

In my/our experience, with over 400 games played, somebody ALWAYS makes that "last push" for the sixth flag.

I'm betting that with possible expansions, that VP for objectives will be in the mix. If not there is no reason not to make your own. I understand the reasoning behind not having them. Mainly due to the left right centre system in this game, but I would prefer at least one objective for each side.
