14 year old nephew interested and quick learner of board games.
Have played Pandemic, Settlers of Catan, Bohnanza, Mamma Mia, and owns Stagego and Settlers of Catan.

I think i've got only a $15 limit so this might push me towards used but what games would you recommend.

Can I get Pandemic for under $20 somewhere used?

Forbidden Island is 15 bucks. Co-op gameplay, pretty fun. Looks nice.

Too low in my opinion for a board game.

Forbidden Island is a no-brainer choice in that price range.
Or one of the higher rated card game fillers such as For Sale.

Maybe get together with the other Aunts and Uncles and everyone pitches in to get something with a little more meat on the bones?

If not, Pandemic is $25 with free shipping on Amazon.

Forbidden Island does make sense, especially if he likes, but doesn't have access to, Pandemic.

Zombie in my Pocket is another inexpensive cooperative option. Or you could go with a card game, like Onirim (Solitaire/cooperative for 2), or Archaeology: The Card Game (2-4 players), or Jaipur (officially 2 players, unofficially maybe more).

I was going to suggest Bang! My son and his friends love that game.

Maybe you could get some ideas from this list: Good and Cheap: Games in the Top 1000 Under $10

For $15 as a limit... you might look around on the individual game pages here as some may have good games in "like new" condition that will meet that price range criteria. Of course with shipping you will still likely go over that but I assume you have some flexibility.

Here's a few good games that would be close to your price range:

Citadels

San Juan

Carcassonne

Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation (Great 2 player game... look around to find a good deal on a good quality "like new" copy since the Deluxe version is now out.)

Blokus (You may be able to find this "like new" in your price range and as the game is all plastic and doesn't really wear easily... buying used has lower risk.)

Here's a lot of other card/board games that would be in that range as well... but I'm assuming you want the more "board game like" multi-player games...

Modern Art (look for a "like new" copy on BGG)

Tichu (partnership game... an acquired taste... but a great game)

Lost Cities (2 players)

Coloretto

Jambo (2 players)

Bohnanza (which you are familiar with)

Battle Line (2 players)

For Sale

great suggestions everyone. the more i read the more i realize i will just give up one of my games.

I actually have Forbidden Island being shipped to me right now so that's high on the list but I also have a lot of those card games and could likely spare a copy.

I'll try out Forbidden Island and if I think it will work I think I've got it covered. If I like it well enough I can pick up another copy for myself down the line.

Trying to perpetuate the "Uncle Games" nickname. Thanks, all of you, for your help.

okay, after several plays of forbidding island with my 7 year old i think it is just too easy for my 14 year old nephew.

I'm going to give him these two instead....
Light Speed
Save Doctor Lucky

Though if I wanted to be less selfish I could also give him my Cheapass copy of Kill Doctor Lucky which I can't seem to replace at the moment.
