So, I've finally getting around to watching this show. I just watched the Pegasus episode and I'll buy the second half of season two this weekend. So far I love everything about it, but I'm told season three will make me sad and angry.

So what is everyone's opinion? Will season three ruin it for me?

So far the show is better than anything else I've seen on TV in ages. Episodes like 33 minutes are amazing and strong examples of character-based writing. I could really feel the fatigue of basically running constantly for five days. And the growing stress on the crew was played out beautifully in Flight of the Phoenix.

I'm going to watch it either way, but I'd like some idea of the letdown I'm in for.

Oh yeah, as to why I'm just now getting around to watching this: I won Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game from the prize table @ Great Lakes Games a few weeks back.

I don't know if I burned out on it, or what...but JUST when the show was getting going (e.g. Beginning of Season 2) I found that I have no more motivation to watch it.

Am I missing something? Just when it started going somewhere, I thought 'Man, this isn't going anywhere.'

Had the same problem with Lost.

I'll forever remember the series by seasons 1 and 2. Parts of season 3 were pretty good, but it generally goes downhill after that.

Personally didn't like season 3 and on because I felt the who'dunit/cylon motif had both worn off and was poorly executed. There was also a substantial amount of screen time devoted to love triangles that were rather hard to care for and eventually just annoyed and bored me. There are bits an pieces worth watching in there, so I'd still recommend that you finish the series.

The ending feels a bit rushed and was otherwise forgettable. The boardgame, on the other hand, rocks faces.

Not really spoiler material, but you can't be too careful:

The ending is throw-the-book-across-the-room terrible. If they'd ended the whole shebang at Revelations (Season 4, Episode 12) it would have been literature, endlessly debated and rich with meaning and possibility, a puzzle for the ages. Instead, they got Lost...

I just pretend it ended there and it stays awesome in my mind.

Do check out Razor, though.

While indeed the series goes slowly downhill, and you should be prepared for that, it still has many "ups" even in Season 4. I personally did not like the whole spirituality stuff taking over, and some of the character arcs were pretty uninteresting, though in compensation some of the sideline characters turned out to be intriguing. I agree that Season 4 should have ended halfway, but even the last episode has some enjoyable moments.

A vote against Razor. Should probably try to find my rant about it that I probably posted here.

It's loathsome, violence porn that adds nothing to the story.
I already had this DVD (it came with season 2.0 in the auction) and I cheated and watched it last night. The few spoilers didn't ruin anything for me. I like seeing how they get there more than the destination, so I'm pretty immune to spoilers.

I'm a little more with Drew about Razor. It didn't add much except for showing bits we already knew (except for exactly how big a bitch Cain was). I hated the whole 'you become a razor' nonsense. It's dialogue that was thrown in to justify the name of the movie. Nothing more.

I would have rather have seen Shaw try to deal with her past choices instead of just blowing herself up. And what was she injecting herself with? Why did she never move it out of the coffee can? There were some parts I enjoyed including the Cylon-swerve at the end and the classic centurions and throwback ships.

I read a synopsis of the Plan and it really didn't excite me, but I'm sure I'll watch it anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing Baltar deal with the Six on the Pegasus. That should be fun.

I watched the first season and a little of the second. I couldn't get past how much I hated Starbuck. It drove me nuts how she was the best at absolutely everything. Ever.

Best pilot.
Best fighter.
Best gambler.
Best sniper.
Best interrogator.
Best mechanic. (This one was especially terrible since the other roles didn't necessarily have another main characters that could easily fill them, but when Starbuck knows how to fix the alien ship way better than the Chief knew how to I couldn't take it anymore.)

Seriously every time something happened Saul and Edward James Olmos were like "Hey I know just the person that has the skillset we need here: Starbuck!"

This, coupled with the fact that I couldn't stop seeing Stands With a Fist when I looked at the president chick made me give up on the show.

I can see this. What drives me nuts is that she seems to be the best tactician in military history in that nobody else can seem to formulate a battle plan batter than she can.

While at times I was left shaking my head, for the most part, I enjoyed Seasons 3 and 4, and as TV series go, I thought the ending was satisfactory. Could it have been a better ending, sure, but compared to some other sci-fi shows I've known (X-Files, Lost), I like the finale of BSG better.

Now of course, I am anxiously awaiting the latest installment: Battlestar Galactica, Blood & Chrome!

This time, we'll get to see Galactica and Bill Adama in their prime!

I agree. The Starbuck stuff could get pretty silly at times - she was good at everything, etc. But I still feel that it is one of the best shows I have ever had the pleasure to watch. Each season was better than the last.

The Miniseries is better than Season 1, Season 1 is better than Season 2, but all of that is excellent - even the weakest episodes are quite good.

Season 3 is the weakest IMO. The first few episodes are very good, and there are a some excellent episodes mid-season, but the rest is largely filler. (There's one crappy episode where all they do is have boxing matches and flashbacks about relationships.snore) Razor was quite good, but not as good as typical Season 1 (I'd put it on par with Season 2).

Season 4 starts off weak but improves and again has some great episodes mixed in, though the finale is not one of them.

Taken as a whole, BSG is still one of the best TV shows out there, for me it's tied in a dead heat with The Wire.

Honestly.. BSG was an "ok show" for me up until the pegasus meeting, after that, it just took a nose dive, like the writers just threw up their hands and said "We're done".

i won't ruin it for you story wise, but it's apparent that the writers were at a loss, and just started writting out of their collective @$$'s. I believe the producer even said this in a round about way (If I mention what he says, it could ruin it for you, slight spoiler-ish).

I did get angry about the entire show after that.

But really, what fallows sort of destroys the entire story line up. It no longer makes sense. The reason for "war" is no longer there. It's just a big "what?"

Edit:
Ok, forgot about the spoiler tag. So here goes

Spoiler (click to reveal)
What made me loose it was the whole "anyone can be a cylon, even the most decorated human who fought tooth and nail against the cylons while in their slave camp. Oh he's a cylon, suddenly the president's aide is a cylon, and evil for some unknown reason. They really tried to push this "paranoia" of who is a cylon, but it just got stupid. The producer said in an interview before that season started that "anyone could be a cylon, even we don't know." Which sounded like "we're just making this up as we go along. Try to keep up. And what was with Starbuck going into a storm or something, then coming back a ghost? but a confused ghost? what was her purpose, it made no sense. And if the final 6 (or whatever) were actually all on the BSG, then what was this war really about? why were they fighting? the Cylons are robots are they not? things just stopped adding up.

While waiting for season 2.5 and 3 to show up, I re-watched the original mini series and I noticed something I missed before.

When they were at Ragnar and the storm was slowly frying the cylons, why didn't they just hang out for another couple hours? Sure there were a gazillion cylons out there waiting for them, bu they were waiting. Why not just let the storm fry or at least expose every cylon in the fleet and then leave? Seems like it would be worth risking to expose every potential spy/saboteur in the fleet.

Also, why did Six snap the baby's neck? It seems out of character for her. Sure she enabled the cylons to nearly eradicate the human race, but that was the only time she showed any sort of real malevolence toward an individual. She saw the invasion as necessary to move along God's plan the killing of the baby just seems out of nowhere.
