Hello everybody ! and especially the Knudson's
THANK YOU for designing this game
I want to buy this game but before I do I wanted some clarification on the ruleset and perhaps an FAQ
I downloaded the rules from the link provided (thank you) and noticed that the rules do not have a
1. Table of contents
2. An ordered number set of rules
3. A clear and concise sub listing of the ruleset
I realize that any game is a lesson in function, design and playtesting but wonder how well this game tested with people who are unfamiliar with games of some complexity.
Lets get down to the format
Guys, first I humbly suggest that you need a table of contents.
I understand the rules (as I have read them) are short and you deserve kudos for giving examples. However for a newbie or someone whose first language isn't English please for the love of god provide a listing. My apologies if the hard copy has such a listing...
1.0 Drawing assets cards
begin your turn ...
combine revenue from all your companies ...
1.2 Card limit
player are limited to 15 cards ...
you then cross index it. guys ? please ?
Here is a great example
Paying off debt
through(out) the game a player will eventually have to take on debt (see borrowing 5.X)
players are presented with a cross indexed rule. There is no hunt and peck for the appropriate wording. Saves time, frustration which makes everyone happy and as an added bonus leaves more time for playing the game again.
finally I want to ask a question that has been asked here more than once
what happens when the game runs out of debt cards ?
Clearly players will decide how they want to handle such a situation but to get some guidance on the situation would really be helpful.
I would do as has already been suggested and keep track of debt on paper but for there to be nothing in the rules at all is a little troublesome. At least add something like "business as in life is full of risk and reward. If players run into a situation that isn't clearly defined in the rules create a new rule, vote on its implementation and move on from there."
I am thinking mostly of the players who don't use English as a native language. Indexing, cross indexing and covering possible situations is (I think) the least one can do with a ruleset.
I certainly don't want to sound too bookish and I think this game can hit a sweet spot for my purposes but without some guidance from the creator/designer I am left wondering if I should buy it or not.
please please please (oneigaishimasu) give some clarification, even if you don't know what is best; hearing that from you would be a vote of confidence.
It would be great if I could buy this game for christmas and have it played by new years
thanks Brian and Brent
I contacted the designers and asked them the same question
here is what he said
"We are working on an updated rule set to post online, and will consider your suggestions.
As for the debt question, this only really happens if you are playing with 6 players and everyone is playing irresponsibly, since players cannot borrow beyond their net worth. If you do run out, I would suggest either using paper to keep track, or put a paper clip or a mark on a few of the $1M Debt cards and consider those $100M. I know it isn't ideal, but the game was designed as a 4 player game, and pieces for 6 were added at the last minute with relatively little playtesting."
