...is why the ads on the Geek are, a lot of the time, for themed versions of mainstream games like Monopoly and Clue.

Nobody who frequents the site wants to buy those games. How do they make money advertising them?

Anyone got any insight here?

Well I'm not likely to buy fake handbags, even with 80% off so themed Monopoly is far more likely.

This is incorrect.

Only a tiny percentage even post in forums. Tons of 'non-gamers' come here looking for games.

I'm confused. Which one of the quoted information is "completely wrong"?

A lot of the ads are from Google, which is just selecting the ad based on what's on the page.

Just as an experiment, let me try to get a camera ad to appear:

Took a few reloads but:

The ad link (to be fair) is http://www.shutterfly.com/?cid=OM2010AUDOD

Of course, that ad could have come up by chance anyway, so this is very far from proof.

I own 3 themed Monotony, er, Monopoly games, because my clients are familiar with the rules already and like to play them. I want the Simpsons one for myself.

Woot, 1955 ads are being seen.

-Sorry, just get excited when I run across my own ad and also see people mention it.
