My wife and I just finished watching the Star Wars Holiday Special. After years of trying, I obtained the loan of a bootleg VHS tape and recorded a DVD. Watching this monstrosity is a true test of fandom, as it is 97 minutes of what may well be the worst Christmas special ever.

I'm just wondering if there are others here who have seen this, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'll start with this: why do Wokiees watch Diahann Carroll "porn?"

I watched this when it was aired the one and only time, and I remember feeling embarrassed back then. It was even bad for an 11 year old kid like myself. The only part of the Holiday Special that I retained over the years was the animated section that featured the first look at Boba Fett.

I, too, obtained a VHS copy of the Special many years later, and I could not sit through the thing. I skipped right to the Boba Fett cartoon and was happy.

I don't blame George Lucas at all for wishing that this special never existed. It really is that bad.

I also saw this when it aired, at an age when I didn't yet understand that some shows and movies are simply bad. I remember being VERY confused. I viewed the special again, although not pure - I was using the Rifftrax - and discovered the reason I was so confused as a kid. This show is SO alarmingly, impossibly bad that it's a functional hallucinogen if you actually watch it straight through.

Also, Harvey Korman pouring drinks into the top of his head freaked me out big time.

I saw it when I first aired. I actually stopped watching before it finished. I was only 10, and a huge star wars fan, but still I knew that this sucked too much to watch.

It's god awful.

But it is still, perhaps, more entertaining than episode I & II.

When I was in college, my friend told me he had a copy on VHS. I begged him to let me see it, despite his warnings and misgivings. He finally relented, but only on the condition that we not actually watch the whole thing and that he be allowed to fast forward to certain parts.

I waited with anticipation while he dug out the cassette, and sat myself down, ready for the campy goodness of the Star Wars Christmas Special. I can't remember much now, I must have been brought to the verge of madness, because the only thing I remember is a 15-minute conversation completely in Wookiee about whether or not a young Wookiee called "Stinky" was going to take out the trash. Obviously, if it wasn't for my friend, and his steeled resolution from previous exposure to the Christmas Special, I surely would have perished.

I say this to all who may harbor some curiosity about the Christmas Special. There are things man was not meant to know! Lucas was trying to protect humanity by denying the existence of this program. Heed his warning! Return this horror to the earth and let it sleep for all eternity.

My wife and I said the same thing. I'm glad to see these comments - most everyone is saying what we thought as well.

And Keith, his name was Lumpy, not Stinky, although Stinky works just as well.

Thank you for the correction, I plead insanity.

I also want to point out that Lucas thought it was bad. That should tell people everything they need to know.

I woke up today thinking about it. I think that it may have the power to drive people mad. I'm actually trying to think of a way to "unsee" it.

Perhaps large quantities of alcohol...

My son is a huge star wars geek (despite having Tiberius as a middle name). So, last year I got a hold of a bootleg copy for him.

He and I sat down to watch it, but I can't say that much about it. The copy was really blurry, but most of all I fell asleep during it.

My wife is a huge Star Wars fan and has been asking about it. My son refuses to watch it with her. I'm not even sure he knows where it is any more.
