I always loved the old microgames. Simple, easy to learn, with just enough complexity to let you focus on the strategy. Most of these are long out of print and I have no idea where my copies ended up. So, I decided to make my own rules. They are heavily based on my memory of Ogre/G.E.V. and in a pretty rough shape. My biggest problem is that I have no access to local geeks, so I can't playtest the rules at all. I think the unit balance is alright, but who knows? If you would be willing to check the rules out and tell me you think I'd be grateful.

Look on EBay or some other auction site.. Games like OGRE and GEV can be found easily enough.

You can also find some nifty micro-games here:

Google is awesome.

A guy on BGG, Kwanchai Moriya, did a new set of artwork for OGRE, but it was taken down. However he might let you use it for your game:

Yikes, there's a cautionary tale for ya.

I might say that my rules are "heavily inspired by my memory of Ogre" but that's mostly because they involve tanks and a combat results table not because I copied any of of those rules. And, for any corporate lawyers that are reading, let me state that it's been more than twenty years since I looked at my copies of Ogre or G.E.V. So, that should read "My distant, foggy, memory". whistle

Honestly, the whole reason I wrote my own rules wasn't because I was itching to play Ogre and couldn't figure out how to get a copy. But because I have another project in the works that needs a simple set of rules to make it go.

BTW thanks for that Dwarfstar link Marc! I remember seeing some of those games on the shelf at Wargames West Back when I was still a young nerd. I never played any of them though. All my time went to Carwars and G.E.V.

Hey, I updated the rules to balance out the movement and range of a couple of units. I also uploaded a quick reference card and an intro scenario with a super ugly map! Still no counters tho...
