Every few years, a group of SCA friends here in KC get together for a day-long Blood Royale game. We play in male-female teams, all five countries, and we always seem to finish the game in about 8-10 hours, not including the dinner break. We do put a five-minute time limit on the diplomacy part of the turn. The ladies seem to enjoy the dynastic and trade aspects of the game quite a bit.

I'll have to run that by my wife - I'm sure she'd be up for a nice 8-10 hour game!

Thinking about a Game of Thrones version of this, with my own streamlined dynastic rules (no paperwork!)

Another innovation would have to be murdering characters under your care.

But yes, I think the combination of sex and violence is greatly underestimated in game design.

Way back when this game was new, we played among some newly-married and about-to-be-married couples, and had a ball. Some of the women, normally non-gamers, quickly took over the rolling up & naming of family members, even entering into marriage contracts "behind the backs" of the male team-members. That may be my favorite memory of this game.
