I don't really have a lot of experiences with wargames. I have 2nd de mayo, bought memoir '44 which was a big hit with my wife. Since she liked this I decided to buy Command and Colors: Ancients. But she doesn't really like this as much as Memoir '44.

So I'm looking what similar games are there to Memoir'44?

She likes plastic figures not a lot of different troops.

And getting into another remark from a friend who I played it with. Not really the 'battle back', since he thinks this is not consistent with turn based games.

Any suggestions?

Battle Cry might be a good choice.

The flexible system offers multiple options for tinkering with the game at home.

Try some of the "Axis and Allies" series of games. At the lighter end is "D-Day". A bit more beefy is "Guadalcanal". I really like "Battle of the Bulge" though, and given the time of the year, it is well, timely. Esp. for those in Belgium.

I'd suggest your friend's perspective is rather narrow, or dates back to the day when a unit's defensive ability found its way onto the combat results table as an "Attacker Eliminated" or "Attacker Retreat" result.

The Battle Cry: 150th Civil War Anniversary Edition re-issue may be just what you want. It has figures but only a few different types: infantry, cavalry, artillery, and leaders. Of the Commands & Colors games, it's the most similar to Memoir in terms of complexity.

I'd also suggest looking at the Gio Games line, which has simple Euro/Wargames for Napoleonic, American Civil War, and World War II. No plastic figures though. http://giogames.it/

I went from Memoir '44 to Squad Leader.

That might not be the best recommendation though.

Depends on if she's keen on the bits or keen on the gameplay.

Sounds like bits.

In that case I'd do Battle Cry as other folks have recommended.

Tide of Iron is great, but it takes much longer to set up, the rules can be fiddly, and it has more depth which an be a put off if Memoir '44 was maxing your wife out.

If you feel like dropping a chunck of money, Axis & Allies Miniatures would fit the bill.
