Happy New Year to you, too. But I've got to ask, who is "we" in the "we celebrate as the turning of the year"?
What better day to celebrate the new year than the solstice? I think all the cool people will be celebrating it this way in the future - now it's just the cool people who are in the know. I'm sure it will become more trendy in the future; these holiday things always get commercialized in the end, for better or worse.
Celebrate it on some random day some Popes and Roman emperors picked by accident or celebrate it on a day of cosmic significance? Seems like an easy choice to me.
So, happy new year to not only those people celebrating with us today, but those coming around to the holiday in the future - welcome aboard!
