I had my first 3 player games last evening, and we had to end the last game on time limit, as it seemed to drag along endlessly.

Basically everyone had the strategy of "attack the player controlling two regions whose turn is next".
Barring very unlucky dice rolls, it seemed we could do this forever without anyone winning.
As we were all beginners, I assume that we didn't use the Polar Sink enough, and we never had enough troops per region, but still:
I cannot imagine how someone could ever get to control 3 regions in a 6 player game.

Am I missing something here? Does anyone have experience with 5+ player game?
Thanks in advance.

the game isn't as fun with 4+ players

i suggest using alliances as a way to fix this problem. it's hard to win a dice game where the only way to win is to get momentum.

4 players: 2 vs 2, winner controls 4 areas at end of turn.
5-6 players: 2 vs 2 vs 2, or 2 vs 2 vs (1+1) three 2 army alliances fight over dune. winner controls 4 areas. in a 5 player game the fifth player plays 2 factions by himself

with big numbers i suggest these variants:
1) faction dice: if you lock an opponent's faction, he may place an army token for free on the sink. emperor can not place a sardoukar

2) at any time a player can pay twice the spice to place an army token into the activated area

3) no thumper & no tactics

4) players in an alliance may share shields, snoops & truth trances

5) if tactics is played, 2 troops destroy a fort (not a fort destroys 2 troops), empty forts are destroyed, when performing assignment troops may also be moved from the polar sink but 1 troop must remain

6) one army token vs sardoukar, both are killed
----------------------------------------------------------
3 players:
must have 2 tokens to control area, 3 controlled areas win
----------------------------------------------------------
2 players:
1 token determines control, control 4 areas to win
