I have money at the moment (hoorah) but not enough potential players to justify picking up TI3. So I want to pick up a grand scale WWII game. I dont want Axis and Allies nor Attack! (Ihave Attack! already) I do have Third Reich so my question is thus:

Do I pick up GMT's Expensive Both theatres game A World At War?
Or do I pick up The Great Pacific War to expand Third Reich to both theatres.
Or is there an alternative?

thanks
Rich

Don't do it - Have you any idea on the rules for a World at War? 190 pages..are you mad?

Why not try Europe Engulfed a great strategic game that's playable

I don't really know the other games you mentioned but there is also ADG's World in Flames. Not cheap but a truly strategic game of WW II with lots of options and expansions.

Don't be scared - this system has tremedous on-line support and the rules are primarily procedural and not that hard. There are just a lot of procedures.

Definately go with AWAW and not Rising Sun. Rising Sun had problems that are now fixed in AWAW and the theaters mate far better now. Strongly suggest you get AWAW.

I don't know AWAW, but Europe Engulfed is well worth a try for the European theatre - with a good online version too.

Forget AWAW and go for Europe Engulfed or Totaler Krieg.
Much more fun.

I also want a copy of World at War too, if not for the heavy price tag. Given that I already have several strategic WW2 games, Totaler Krieg and all the Third Reich editions, is it still worth to have this in my closet collection?

I need a game that isnt just ETO as I have a couple of those. I'm not so worried about rules being heavy work as I expect the game to be hard-ish work!

A World at War is a more than a bit rules heavy. It's like saying the Sun's a bit hot.

Do you have Third Reich or Advanced Third Reich?

If you have ATR I would guess the leap up to AWAW is only gigantic, whereas if you have TR then the leap to AWAR is somewhat bigger.

Again don't do it, buy a game you might just play.

I do have the new version of Third Reich and whilst I like it, its not perfect. But I have been working on my own fix for the rules.

I dont mind complicated, I do mind lots of Admin and micro-management.
