I was just informed that I won a free copy of any Hans im Glück currently in print, as part of the Westpark Gamers St. Pete contest.

I'm not exactly familiar with which games are currently available in the HiG line so I thought I'd put the question out to the BGG community. Which game should I get?

Should I get something that's nearly out of print?
Should I get one of the newer releases?
What about Carcassonne: the City? Or perhaps Die Macher?

Any other suggestions (perhaps some lesser known games)?

Jasen

I can tell you that Carcassonne: The City is a good, solid game.

I guess the best thing is to answer a question with a question:

What kinds of games do you like? Then someone post a list of the HiG list and I can help you better.

The Tower of Babel should be out very soon. You might want to see if you can get that the moment it's available. It's a big box HiG Knizia after all.

Well I tend to like most Eurogames, especially those that play within 1.5 hours. Knizia is by far my favorite designer. Most of my likes and dislikes can be gleaned from my ratings.

I guess I should have stated the questions this way: What would you pick in my situation?

I personally would consider the following:

New Releases:
Tower of Babel (Knizia, big box, looks like minimal language dependance)
Shadow of the Emperor (good reviews but I can get fairly cheap on my own so why bother...)

Other stuff:
Die Macher (highly rated, nearly OOP, good trade fodder at a minimum; a bit longer than I like my games but can I really go wrong with this one)
Carc the City (attractive bits, best of the series according to some, high production value)

Boulder is showing Tower of Babel at $21.

If you pick Die Macher, you could trade for 3 or 4 copies of ToB.

I would go for die Macher. Incredible game, and not as long or daunting as you think. And if you don't like it, it is excellent trade fodder.
