Did you think overtext was a waste of code and time?
Did you resent 100 gg for something you can't see?
Did you post saying overtext is useless?

Now's the time to put overtext to the test.

February will see the first (and possibly only) overtext treasure hunt.
we have 100 265gg as a prize; (other contributions of ggold and other prizes are welcome)

edits Good news we will have other treasure!

There will be prizes for the first 10 winners!

Note the date changes!

Starting with a forum post or a geeklist a clue will (hopefully) lead geeks to find a user with overtext and further clues that will lead to the geek or place with the stash.
The winning geek will have to provide the correct trail to claim the prize.

I've posted in the microbadge request thread asking for someone to design a microbadge for participants. (2 might be good, one for hunters and one for overtext participants)

So to make this work needed are:
* more geeks with overtext to volunteer (geekmail me!)
* any offerings of treasure (geekmail me!)
* someone to offer to make a (restricted) Geekbadge or two
* good ideas about the final destination - a place that can be found by using search engines isn't going to work.
* patience from anyone who finds the whole idea offensive

all gg donations here go into the treasure!

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, WHAAAT?

I have no idea what overtext is or what this might be about.

Although I won't be spending my geekgold on overtext, if someone kindly donated 100 gg to me, I'd participate.

I'm confused. Do you need overtext to participate?

To be a hunter target you need an overtext, but not to hunt for it. What you DO need is javascripts to work

Can one be both a target and participate as a hunter?

I won't be here from 1st to 7th, so I vote for 7th to 14th.

This sounds like an awesome idea. I am in for some treasure hunting (threw all my bag into the lotteries can't even think about affording overtext). Do we need to do anything specifically to participate or what?

I'll throw in a vote for the 7th to the 14th for Steve since I could probably work with either.

Hiya

best thing is for you to be a treasure hunter. We won't be ready for the 1st so the start is now the 7th!!!

A geeklist will appear on the 7th of Feb (US time) and this will be the start of the hunt!

Any questions send them my way!

sounds like fun, but I have a great deal of users' avatars blocked (basically all the animated ones, since they're all incredibly obnoxious) so I guess I'll sit this treasure hunt out.

yes it sounds like you might have to. I'm not sure how many of the team have animated ones but I know it's at least 2.

Will the Geeklist be titled The Great Overtext Treasure Hunt or will it be a mystery?

Mystery! Exciting... but what US time? A whole day is not a time.
Will you post a "Go!" here when it actually goes out?

Will all of the clues be in place from the beginning or will some be put out as time passes? Or will some only be available at certain specific times / star alignments? devil

Have you watched 1980's Midnight Madness in preparation?
