Hey everyone,

Anybody familiar with the Scrabble Luxury Edition? MSRP $149 or so; all wood etc. I'm just trying to figure out if it's a major step up from Scrabble Deluxe.

For anyone interested in Scrabble, I recommend the book Word Freak, by Jon Fatsis, about the World Scrabble Championships--fascinating and entertaining stuff.

Thanks!
CL

The documentary based on it, Word Wars, is pretty good too. Not as well done as Spellbound, mind you, but worth the watch.

"Word Freak" is a well documented inside view of the Scrabble 'all-consuming-way-of-life', with some rather interesting personalities too. Highly recommended. Made me want to go out and pick up my own set of plastic colored tiles.

I recently saw a super-deluxe (could have been 'Luxury') edition of Scrabble in a big box at a discount store here called Sam's Club that went for 69.95. It was all wood w/ impressive over-produced components... nothing new. It looked pretty, however, was not anymore functional than the 'deluxe' version I already enjoy.

My son bought this for my wife and I for Christmas. It is definatly a coffee table version. The tiles are made out of the same material as good dice are (whatever that material is). But, yeah, nothing different but it stays out now.
