"Enemy" as used in the combat section just means non-active players' ships, yes? So combat is always successful for the attacker, even if there are three ships "defending" one space?

This is so bizarre I have to ask. I mean, it could be that since all opponents' ships are enemy to each other, removing all enemy ships could mean that combat is always mutually destructive. Just checking.

That's how we play it. Keep in mind you cannot attack explorers 'shielded' by their mothership, i.e. explorers with a tracable path to their homebase.

The attacking Explorer ship always sends back all "enemy" Explorer ships on a tile no matter how many there are, so yes a single ship can send back 3 others.

The term enemy applies to all other players in the normal game and to the opposing team in the Team variant.
