Hi,

We have played this game ~100 times with these rules and it's really good.

1. This variant can be played only with 5 players!
2. There are always two saboteurs and three dwarfs (2+3)
3. Finishing dwarf does not get any bonuses.
4. The most valuable rule: When last card is taken from the pile, you can start to skip your turn without discarding a card from hand! Game is finished when all five players have skipped their turn. (if four players skip turn but fifth does something, then skip-count restarts from him. In other words - skipping count resets if someone does his move).
5. Remove all gold cards. You do not need them. This is pure teamwork - you count the wins after N rounds. One point for everyone who was in the winning team. And you should play more than three rounds. In the end you get to see who performs the best in each role. Master of the game, hehe.

Tell me if you too like this variant!

I guess, You can use gold cards if you want but that's too boring in our group.
We'll can make it like that - who wins from dwarfes, gets two dollars (from other two dwarfs) haha. Will see how it goes.

Saboteur is the screw your neighbor type of game. If you eliminate the inside competition of who gets to the gold first, then you tear away a big chunk of fun. It's every gnome for himself. As a non-saboteur you only help the group to help you get to the gold.

Indeed, we even had a 3-player game once without a saboteur and didn't reach the gold because we screwed eachother to be first and nobody dared to lay down the sixth card. (the difference between the first and other diggers can be huge if you draw a 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 gold)
