We had an amusing turn come up in our game this weekend. Six-player with all Exodus options, in this order:

Apollo (CAG)
Cally
Baltar (President)
Gaeta
Cain (Admiral)
Anders (me)

In case you're wondering, yes I did take Anders in sixth seat after extracting a promise to get me to the Press Room and let me hork up cards. My choices were support, political or pilot. With CFB a second pilot is a good backup in case of Cylon CAG so I was picking a pilot. Starbuck is good, but we've done her to death. Kat... eh, not my most favorite. Boomer with trauma tokens on the brig? No thanks. So Anders it was. As it turns out he's good in the support role and they did get me to the Press Room so I had cards.

Anyway, this is about the State of Emergency! The game state: distance 3 and fleet on -1, no suspects for Cyloninity except the short jumps (and even then we believed the Admiral when he said poor choices). Then-Human Gaeta decides to do a State of Emergency. No good deed goes unpunished, as they say. Here's why:

He XO's Cain with his action, and she moves to Main Batteries and eats up raiders. Cain's SoE: fire at more raiders and boom! Anders jumps the ship into sleeper (reroll from Gaeta and no loss), with Cain choosing a Distance 3 and then turning into a Sympathetic Cylon. Apollo uses his location to hop right back out into space, as CAG getting another Viper out with him and then escorts a civvie. Cally Launches a Scout. Baltar uses his OPG to check the new Admiral Gaeta... whom he declares Cylon.

Poor Gaeta has no poker face: when it got to her turn, Cally looked at him and asked point blank if he was a Cylon, and he smiled and giggled like a schoolgirl. She shot him.

He was also the only Cylon. The other Cylon card was the leftover and the Sympathic Cain wanted a Human win.

So be careful what you do with your State of Emergency! It could end up biting you in the butt!

As far as other Perils of SoE go.....

--taking up to 15 minutes to discuss what each person intends to do, and a good chunk of that time for who gets to use the XO on whom (not that that wasn't fun, but anything that adds a chunk to game time is always worth noting)
--losing food, when you're already short on food.
--using it when we've already discussed who we're going to Brig for being a suspected cylon.

Support ain't bad for this game. With the new Pegasus cards AND Exodus cards, they're a total blast to play as. Of course, if you don't have enough Support, then that's when Galactica/Pegasus takes heavy damage

With Kat, same approach as Anders. You want to be stocking up on those 5s and 6s so you can use them with impunity on your turn. However, even I have to admit that I choose her with the (even more) expectation of NOT winning, but as someone who's still fun to play.

Ironically enough, the one game we had Boomer, we were able to get her out of the Brig pretty quickly. Thanks to Baltar not spilling the beans on admiral Cain and leading us to suspect both (Cally shot Baltar, and we brigged Cain).
