Hey, I posted in that dimensions thing. Well, I am making a 4X game with a theme around viruses/cells/bacteria/etc. Well, for the battle system, I would like more of a strategic way to fight instead of just random dice rolling. So I thought that a simple card battle system would work. I have about 7 "fighting" units, and 2 "civilian" units. I want the weakest fighting units to be able to take on the stronger ones with the right amount of strategy, but it would still be a difficult fight. I don't need a heavy level of difficulty, and I would like the battles to have large amounts of units (20 each side max most often). Any suggestions?

Instead of cards, you could have something based on 'Conway's Game of Life':

Have a look here, looks totally irrelevant but this designer has managed to develop a simple, clean and very tense and effective combat resolution system using cards. Far superior, in my opinion, than the standard use of dice.
