A Roman army of 10 CUs are sitting on Capua/Syracuse.
Carthage plays the relevant revolt card, flipping the city.

What happens with the Roman CUs?
It says that "any Roman CUs inside are eliminated"

I suppose that the Roman CUs are actually not inside, thus not eliminated, right?

Units in a Walled city should be placed under the walled city marker. Those not under are considered outside the city and not affected.

And: All 10 CUs will never be eliminated, because only a limited number of CUs is allowed to be declared as "inside" the city.

Interesting - we always (mis)read this card to mean units in the space, not units in the city in the space. So the card is somewhat less drastic than we thought.

Glad I saw this thread.

I learnt this the hard way. Thought it was game changing until my opponent (who always read the rules more carefully than me) pointed out that important caveat.

Just reading the card... is this really intended that only the CUs inside are lost? Would make sense, but the card text is a little bit unclear. But I think I will play it this way.

How is it implemented in the online version of the game?

I'd say the card is quite clear - all Roman CUs inside are eliminated.

I think if you take the cards in CDG games at face value - unless it contradicts something in the written rules (and this doesn't) a lot of potential confusion is avoided.

Yes, the card is "quite" clear, but to be honest, this game really has quite a few rules issues, so - if anyone plays online, I (at least) would still be interested in the implementation there (was it wargameroom?)

First time I ever encountered this issue, was when Africanus was sitting on Syracuse with 10CUs.

Got Syracuse Allies With Carthage played, and the full stack discarded.

Second time it happened was when I wrote this questions here on BGG. We played it the other way around (that the full 10CUs survived). Frankly, I think we got it right the second time, not the first..

Yeah, I think the only time units would be declared inside the city (and therefore lost) would be if an opposing army was outside the city walls at the time the card was played.
