I tidied up my session notes from playtesting the "Against the Kobolds" adventure I quickly threw together, and here they are. It's quite long, I'm afraid! (I'm also not very good with the whole images thing so hopefully it comes out okay.)
• Arjhan, Dragonborn Fighter: Sure Strike, Cleave, Dragon’s Breath, Inspiring Advice, Brute Strike, with Boots of Striding
• Tarak, Half-Orc Rogue: Snipe Shot, Backstab, Furious Assault, Sneak Attack, Tornado Strike, with a Vorpal Sword.
• Thorgrim, Dwarf Cleric: Sacred Flame, Divine Flare, Healing Word, Consecrated Ground, Blade Barrier, with a Potion of Healing.
• Heskan, Dragonborn Wizard: Ray of Frost, Scorching Burst, Hurled Breath, Dispel Magic, Freezing Cloud, with a Ring of Shooting Stars.
Arjhan explores. A spider appears. Kobold Warrens clears out the first five monsters in the deck. The Spider attacks with its web and hits, slowing him.
Tarak moves across Arjhan and Snipe Shots the spider, killing it (2xp, Crystal Ball). He explores, revealing a Rat Swarm. A Pit opens up, swallowing the Wizard, though the others manage to avoid it. The rats approach and attack Tarak & Arjhan, hitting both for 1.
Thorgrim burns the Rat Swarm with his Holy Flare (1xp, Breath of Life), healing Tarak. He explores, discovering a dead end occupied by an Orc Archer guarding the vault. It gives the Scream of the Sentry, revealing a nearby Duergar Guard. Being adjacent, the Archer punches Thorgrim for 1 as the Duergar fetches more reinforcements. A snake slithers around the corner.
Meanwhile, Heskan fails to climb out of her pit. At the bottom of the pit, she is attacked by Waking Dreams that leave him dazed. Clearly, she’s uncomfortable sitting around in deep, dark pits.
The slowed Arjhan moves over to the Orc Archer and Sure Strikes, killing it (1xp, Wand of Polymorph). However, he steps on a stone that activates Crushing Walls: both heroes barely escape but still take 1 each.
Tarak explores forward, discovering a Long Hallway occupied by a Kobold Dragonshield and further along, a Snake. The temperature rises with Walls of Magma. The kobold hits Tarak and the snake moves closer, as the other snake attacks Arjhan, poisoning him. The burning walls scorch him.
Thorgrim blasts the Snake with his Divine Flare (1xp, Potion of Rejuvenation), curing Arjhan’s poison but, without enough XP, is unable to use his roll of 20. He moves towards Tarak but stays away from the walls. Nevertheless, the Unbearable Heat takes its toll on all the heroes.
Despite the hot walls, Heskan tries to climb out of the pit again, and fails again. A Steam Vent threatens to kill her (after bypassing several Trap and Hazard cards that wouldn’t apply to a hero not on a tile) and she avoids it with Dispel Magic. She considers setting up a little shop at the bottom of her pit.
Arjhan rushes into the Long Hallway and Cleaves the Snake but misses, and the walls burn him. The Kobold activates a Concussive blast that he barely avoids, nevertheless taking 1 and propelling him to the end of the hall.
Tarak moves forward, turns and uses Snipe Shot to kill the snake (1xp, Shield of Protection). The wall burns him as he explores. He discovers the Dire Chamber--the Kobold’s Stables! The Rage Drake, a Cave Bear, two kobold dragonshields and a wolf are revealed! The Rage Drake charges Tarak, hitting him for 3 and leaving him dazed. Two kobolds approach heroes and watch warily without engaging, whilst the other gets reinforcements: a rat swarm. Meanwhile, the rats and cave bear approach.
(I misplayed the Rage Drake, starting it on its Enraged Side. This clearly made the encounter a lot more difficult than it otherwise would’ve been.)
Thorgrim approaches. He uses his Healing Word to keep Tarak standing and then summons his Blade Barrier on top of the Rage Drake and the bear, leaving one blade blocking the entrance. The bear and drake are wounded. A Deep Tremor runs through the mountain, damaging each hero for 1. The Rage Drake attacks with its claws but misses. The Duergar Guard fetches a Spider as reinforcement. Two kobolds continue to watch as the other gets more reinforcements: a kobold skirmisher, who throws a javelin and hits Tarak for 1.
Heskan stays in her pit. She likes it there and begins to decorate it with her Mage Hand, making little sculptures out of blobs of melting wall and solidifying it with her Ray of Frost. A sleepy Occupied Lair near the pit finally wakes up to all the noise; a kobold skirmisher comes running. The other one attacks Tarak and hits for 1.
Arjhan moves up to the Rage Drake and cleaves: he hits it for 1 and then moves adjacent to the kobold dragonshield, killing it (1xp, Wand of Teleportation). He loses 1hp to heat. With a Frenzied Leap, an Orc Archer leaps out of the darkness and joins the fray. The Rage Drake bashes Tarak down the hall and leaves him unconscious. The wolf leaps to Arjhan and hits him for 1 and slows him. Then the Orc Archer shoots him. The arrow plunges into his back and puts him down.
Tarak spends a healing surge and stands. He rushes forward to block the Rage Drake’s advance. A Fungal Bloom is cancelled with experience. The Rage Drake sends him flying back down the hallway again. The Cave Bear and the Rat Swarm move towards Thorgrim.
Thorgrim moves adjacent to Arjhan and feeds him the potion of healing. He then uses his Potion of Rejuvenation to get Blade Barrier back and drops it in the room, taking out a rat swarm and a kobold dragonshield and again damaging the Rage Drake for another 3hp (2xp, Blessed Shield). He places Consecrated Ground on his Tile. He takes 1 damage from the burning walls. The Rage Drake moves adjacent to Arjhan and attacks, but misses. The Duergar Guard approaches. The spider approaches. One kobold skirmisher approaches, while the other one tosses a javelin and misses Thorgrim.
Heskan climbs out of the pit! Just kidding. She stays down there and begins to wonder what the point of it all is. An Ancient Spirit takes pity on her and drops a blessing on the wizard--in her despair she doesn’t want it and passes it on to Thorgrim, who gets his Blade Barrier back. The walls cool down as Dragon’s Tribute takes play. The Rage Drake misses Arjhan. The Dragonshield watches Tarak carefully. The skirmishers attack: one misses Tarak, the other hits Thorgrim for 1.
Arjan cleaves the wolf, killing it and also finishing off the Cave Bear (3xp, Scroll of Teleportation). He uses his Dragonbreath and hits the Rage Drake for another 1. He then moves to protect Thorgrim from the archer and skirmisher. The Rage Drake misses Thorgrim. The Archer misses Arjhan for 1.
Tarak rushes down the hall and Snipe Shoots the Rage Drake: he hits and uses Furious Assault for +1; he kills it! (5xp, and finds a Lucky Charm instead of a Potion of Rejuvenation.) Surrounded replaces Dragon’s Tribute.
Thorgrim moves to an unexplored edge and uses Sacred Flame on the Kobold Skirmisher, killing it (1xp, Breath of Life for 1hp). He reveals a kobold skirmisher. The guard approaches, the spider webs Tarak for 1 and slows him, and the skirmishers approach and miss.
Haskan escapes the pit! Glorious freedom! She sees 3 monsters in front of her! Seething with pent-up pit rage, her howl echoes across the dungeon halls and she hurls her frosty breath at the small swarm of monsters. A spider and kobold skirmisher go down screaming. This gives her an action surge and 3xp! She races to catch up to the other heroes and then Ray of Frosts the Orc Archer, killing it (1xp)! In her frenzied hurry she sets off a Poisoned Dart Trap, but it is cancelled by the Consecrated Ground. A Dragonshield approaches.
Arjhan (on 1 hp) explores: a wolf! He is also Lost, but that is cancelled. The wolf pounces on him and misses.
Tarak approaches and backstabs the Dragonshield, killing it (1xp, Crossbow of Speed). As they’re Surrounded, he gets a new monster: a rat swarm that skitters closer.
Thorgrim Sacred Flames the skirmisher (1xp, and a Throwing Shield, given to Tarak) with some Crucial Advice from Arjhan and heals the fighter for 1. He explores: and sees a snake. An earthquake is cancelled and the snake attacks him but misses.
Heskan drops a Scorching Burst on the wolf and spider, killing both. (3xp, +1 Magic sword, given to Arjhan.) She’s feeling pretty good about herself after all that time sitting around in a pit. She explores: an Orc Smasher! A Thief in the Dark steals her Ring of Shooting Stars, and as she cries out in protest at the injustice of it all, the orc runs up and knocks her upside the head. I should’ve stayed in the pit, she thinks, as she drops unconscious.
Arjhan runs up and hits the Smasher for 1 with Sure strike. Unfortunately, Revel in Destruction heals it. Surrounded brings a new monster: a Duergar guard who stands by and watches the carnage.
Tarak flees his Duergar Guard and snipe shots it for 1. Bull’s Eye! The event would put him down, so it’s cancelled. His rats approach.
Thorgrim moves up and Sacred Flames the Orc Smasher, hitting it for 1 and getting Heskan back on his feet. A Volcanic Burst would kill them all so more experience is used to cancel the event. The Duergar continues to watch, as other minions continue to approach.
Heskan misses the Orc Smasher and moves away. He hits a trip wire, firing a dart that misses and summons reinforcements: an Orc Archer. His Smasher hits Thorgrim for 1, and the Archer shoots at Heskan. She thinks lovingly of dark, safe places at the bottom of deep holes, as she falls down once again.
Arjhan cleaves the Smasher, killing it (2xp, Amulet of Protection) and damaging the guard. He then runs towards the unconscious Wizard. He triggers a Blinding Bomb that leaves him and Tarak dazed, as the Guards move towards unexplored edges. One guard gets reinforcements: (the deck is reshuffled) a wolf in a long hallway... leading to the Horrid Chamber! The Meerak the Kobold Dragonlord awaits with two Skirmishers, a Dragonshield and a Snake. Meerak leads the charge, as the wolf bounds past, followed by the Skirmishers.
(I did a quick xp calculation at this point, coming up with 29xp total earned -6 encounter cancelations=-1 xp. Not sure where the missing xp went, but whatever; I called it even.)
Tarak Snip Shots the Duergar Guard but misses. He throws his shield and hits with a 20, killing the dwarf! (2xp, Holy Avenger given to Thorgrim.) He is no longer dazed, but in recovering he steps on a pressure plate that activates a Fire Trap goes in his space. Meerak approaches down the long hallway. From other places in the dungeon, the Rat Swarm and Snake approach. Then the Fire Trap ignites, putting Tarak down.
Thorgrim pulls back and moves next to the Rogue. He uses Sacred Flame and kills the Rat Swarm (1xp, Necklace of Fireballs given to Heskan) and heals the half-Orc for 1, getting him back on his feet. He sets off a Crossbow Turret which is cancelled by the Fire Trap and followed by a Wandering Monster: which joins the action from very far away. Meerak approaches as does a Kobold Dragonshield, and the wandering spider slowly begins to work its way closer.
Heskan uses the last surge and stand up. She drops her Freezing Cloud on the Orc Archer to guarantee killing it then moves into the hallway to block approaching monsters. The Orc Archer dies. Sadly, a Cave In knocks Heskan out again. Meerak continues to approach, looking scornfully at the unconscious hero, as do his flanking Kobold Skirmishers.
The dazed Arjhan uses his Scroll of Teleportation to move himself next to Meerak, and then swing wildly with his Brute Strike and his Sword +1: he hits! 4 damage to Meerak! A Sulphurous Cloud breathes out, missing but poisoning him. Meerak ripostes, stabbing at the adjacent fighter, hitting with a 20 and putting Arjhan down, and then shifting closer to the two remaining heroes. The wolf and the Kobold skirmishers approach.
Tarak steels himself. This will win or lose the game. He rushes up to Meerak and Sneak Attacks with his vorpal sword and a Tornado Strike. +13 on the attack: rolls a 5 and hits for 2! Meerak is down! Just for fun, he continues to dance and stab, attacking the idly standing nearby Duergar: a 1 and misses! And again! A 20! Kills and levels up! And just to complete the carnage, he throws his shield at the wolf, killing it. He earns Harrowed Experience for his treasure and with Meerak down, the rest of the monsters flee deeper into the kobold warrens. The disorganized mob will no longer threaten the peaceful peasantry of Longbridge... the heroes win!
In the End
It was, as I wrote in the session report where I introduced the adventure, a fun scenario to play through. Despite a few errors along the way--easy to do when playing solo, as the game has a few moments when it all gets quite busy--it still felt like a well-earned victory.
Here's a picture of the final dungeon. These lairs in WoA, with the addition of Chambers and all those sentries, quickly swell to sizes unimagined in CR.

Yup, one of the heroes gets to flip over a used Daily power. Very handy in times of need--useless, of course, if no one's used a power yet.
I protect the sheep in our society from the wolves.
Great session report Michael. Felt like I was in the bowels of the mountain with you. I cant wait till I have time to get this game punched, set up, and played.
Nice session report - thanks for sharing. That was a good adventure - it makes me want to try it out now. A magic eight ball just foretold (on the second try) that WoA will definitely be part of my weekend plans.
