In this variant, the number of spaces a boat may move is directly related to the number of Atlanteans occupying it, whether one color (player) or different colors (players).

Each person in a boat contributes to the rowing. Therefore, the number of spaces that a boat may move equals the number of people that occupy it, regardless of color. Each player may, during their turn, move the boat a number of spaces equal to the people of THEIR color in the boat.

END RESULTS: (1) boats with one of each color can no longer zip along at possible maxim pace of 9 spaces for one complete round of play (each participant moving it 3). (2) You can no longer rely on just hopping on someone else's boat and then having them move you to safety. Everyone has to pull their own weight. You're all in the same boat (pun intended).

OPTION: Let the boats move a bit quicker if you find the game becomes TOO deadly. Pay careful attention to the FACING of the boat. The bow must point to a HEX SIDE. A boat may move an additional space on each player's turn, as long as it does not change direction, and as long as at least one action was expended to move the boat.
