Info about the battles of Rohan and Gonder are given in the Battles of the Third Age" file. The "Collector's Edition" rules (CE includes the expansion figures) has good descriptions of variants like the Corsairs, Ents and Dunlendings and how they can be used in the main game.

Galadriel: She provides an alternative way to unlock Gandalf's action die, and she makes Lorien much, much tougher to assault.

Smeagol: He makes the hunt pool much less deadly for the Fellowship

Hunty Witch King, Nazgul Chief: Get additional rerolls for camping lots of Nazgul on the Fellowship.

Balrog: Stand in Moria, muster Free People's nations politically, maybe draw an extra hunt tile occasionally, roll lots of dice if the FP are stupid enough to attack militarily. Oh, and provide an alternative way to unlock the WK's action die.

Siege Engines: Spend muster dice in the field for military advantage.

Corsairs: pretty much useless.

Hillmen of Dunland: More forces for Isengard, making them even stronger.

Ents: Rage all over central middle earth, roll lots of dice, and miss with all of them.
