Just played my first game last night. Do only walls block ranged attacks, or do enemy or friendly units as well?
See the rulebook, p.9, at the top:
You cannot attack a card that is blocked by one or more other cards.
"Other cards" means any other cards -- friendly or enemy, unit or wall. Also, the first illustration on that page gives an example of a blocked attack.
Okay, thanks. That makes ranged attackers a lot less powerful.
True enough. Look at it another way, and it makes positional maneuvering an even more important part of the tactics.
It also opens up several interesting new special abilities:
- Archer (Jungle Elves): Shoots over/through other units (but not walls), only affecting the target square.
- Violet (Cloaks): Shoots through other units and damages all of them up to the target.
- Fire Drake (Phoenix Elves): May give an automatic 1 damage to every unit up to it target.
