Greetings to my fellow geeks from the great white north!

We will be moving to central Minnesota (Long Prairie in Todd County) in June. I was hoping to get some insight from other residents of this area.

1. Are there any game stores in this area? Name, address & website would be appreciated. I suspect the closest store would be in St. Cloud.

2. Any gaming groups (even if small) near here? Like within half-an-hour? I am hopeful that at a worst case scenario I can hit St. Cloud for some gaming. I already have plans of monthly trips to Minneapolis.

3. Have any of you recommendations for movers? I was thinking of renting my own truck, but its going to cost $3000. Perhaps a mover would charge a similar fee?

Your help is appreciated.

Henry R.

Don't really have any advice for you other than the monthly marathons in Minneapolis which it seems you already know about. Let me be the first to say welcome to MN though!

I guess this link might help: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=13755561&tag=article-bo...

1. I think St Cloud will be your closest. For game stores in St Cloud, you have:

http://www.paddysgameshoppe.com/
http://www.playitgames.us/ (appears to be a defunct website)

Disclaimer - I've never been to either - I lifted them from another thread.

3. Movers will charge based on where you are moving from and how much stuff you have. Last time we moved (decade+), it was about $6000 but we had quite a bit of stuff and were having a car shipped and were moving half-way across the country.

Long Prairie!! That there is my old stomping grounds. I live in southern MN now, but all my family is still up there.

In terms of gaming stores, St. Cloud is your best bet. I know of one from a couple years ago on Hwy 23 near the Kohls with some great guys running it. There are at least 1 or 2 more in town that my sister has told me about, but weren't there when I lived there 10 years ago.

It's been too long since I lived in LP to comment on gaming groups and it only make it back a handful of times each year so that gaming plan is probably not going to work.

Welcome to the area! Enjoy the fishing, hot summer nights, and 9 months of winter!

Thanks for the input Steve. I'll have to check out the game stores this Wednesday when I hit St. Cloud for a few hours.

Chad, I'd love to get together for some gaming when next you come to town (after June, of course). These 9 months of winter will be a sharp counterpoint to the 9 months of summer I get in Miami!

I would say that in the summer you'll likely find yourself heading to the Twin Cities often enough. It's not THAT far of a drive, and I'd say given the huge outlet mall along the way and the great game shops in town, it'd be worth the effort to trip in. The marathons are a fantastic time, even if you only go once or twice a year.

Otherwise, I've been to a couple of shops in St Cloud and they were nice. It shouldn't be too hard to find a small game group up there!

I should add... check "angie's list" for a good mover. I've had friends get scammed by movers in the past and lose all of their belongings. Otherwise, sell everything and start from scratch!

That link is missing several stores:

Tower Games (no direct website that I can find) http://www.wargames.com/store/480/minneapolis/tower-games

Phoenix Games http://www.phoenixgamesonline.com/ (I haven't been here in a decade and wasn't very impressed)

Outpost 2000 http://www.outpost2000.com/ (nice game shop but a ways from my house)

Yeah that link is actually not very complete and I'm a little puzzled it would get sent to you since you're going to be living north of St Cloud. The Google map "FLGS of the world" is far more accurate, and I'm pretty sure has St Cloud shops listed.
