One of those seminal wargames that introduced wargaming to a whole new generation. Steve Jackson is making a new version of it ultra quality components & and at a presumably ultra quality price. Are you interested and why?

Because it's OGRE (and I have a five year old showing interest in wargames )!

But I assume that SJ will really have an "ultra quality price" as you said. yuk

At least its going to ultra limited... I suspect that in a few years time it will hold its value well.

Bah, who cares about value in a few years - as long as I can have fun with buddies and my son (as long as he wants to play boardgames with an old man) this time is priceless.

I'm sure you agree - if you like come over and I prove it

Because of its price, I probably won't be able to afford it when it comes out and because of its limitedness it won't be available when I can. It's a pity as I think it would have been a good way of getting non-wargaming gamers (especially in military-games-averse Germany) into wargames. I also wonder about the ergonomics of the pieces. Do Ogres take up two hexes or one? If it's one, how will this work with the oversize Ogre models? And will the other counters that touch the hexsides be fiddly when there are a lot in adjacent areas?

Re: Who is excited about the new release of ORGE??
OGRE was my second wargame, probably the wargame I've played the most, and certainly one of my favorites. This is not the version I'd like to see, but it still looks pretty good. WAAAAAAY overpriced, from what I've seen, though. Just another sign that Steve Jackson listens to his customers, but only a little.

Yeah, but he also says the damn thing weights 12 pounds+

So if he is not selling a brick with every box I assume there is something inside for the money.

Space Hulk was worth it.

I have a bunch of Ogre miniatures and might consider picking up a copy. I already have Deluxe Ogre and Deluxe GEV, but it would be interesting to have other large maps.

As someone who was picking up the microgames for the list price when they first came out, I was shocked at this thread, and the retail price for the game.

I hope you guys all enjoy it, because my gut reaction is:

Not a chance

It seems kinda over engineered. I could make a lot of ridiculous analogies, but I will stifle the impulse.

I with you on this one. I was excited a few months ago when the reprint was being bandied about, yet the news of its implementation has completely changed my mind. I'm fine with the originals, and while I'd love a more wargame-like approach to a reprint, the giant box of OGRE is just not for me.

Still, I'm glad it is being made available again for those folks who have never had a chance to play such a great--and simple--game.

Take care,
Hil

For years I've been content to let some of the excitement waft my way from afar, as fans talk about how great this game is. Never saw it myself.

Now and then I make a low bid for a copy on eBay, just because I wouldn't mind seeing what all the fuss is about. It must be about something, given that this deluxe edition is in the works.

ninja When he releases a Deluxe One with actual metal minis, then I'll get excited. Given what he's apparently charging for mere PotSM-style "fold & assemble" minis, maybe I wouldn't get that excited after all. ninja

I'd love to pick up a print and play copy or some sort of thing to see how well it goes over before I'm willing to shell out $100 for a full game. $100 is a bit steep for me to try it out before I can commit..

I'm a big fan of SJG pocket games from waay back but Ogre is one of the few that I never picked up. (I have pocket versions of the Alamo, Revolt on Antares, Car Wars, a couple car wars expansions, etc... but never got Ogre...)
