Since this game is situated in the GW Old World, players could battle with other known races. Simply use a "counts as" swap system. Replace only the miniatures. Keep using the movement trays (since they indicate attackdice) and cards.

High Elves:

Halberdiers -> High Elf Spearmen
Bowmen -> High Elf Archers
Crossbows -> Shadow Guard
Lord Knights -> Dragon Knights
Fuedal Knights -> Reavers
Lord -> High Elf Lord
Cannon -> Bolt Thrower

Bretonnia:

Halberdiers -> Men-At-Arms
Bowmen -> Archers
Crossbows -> Bretonnian Retainers (vintage Citadel miniatures)
Lord Knights -> Grail Knights
Fuedal Knights -> Knights of the Realm
Lord -> General
Cannon -> Bretonnian Cannon (vintage Citadel miniatures)
or
Cannon -> Trebuchet (D&D Miniatures)

Good idea!
It would be cool when the races also have different abilities.
To distinguish them more.
But this would require an adjusted combat system and playtesting, to not destroy the balancing.

I wouldn't adjust any of the rules since they are mystically good. Deeply hidden behind the cards and dice rests a well thought out game-system. That's why I only apply the "counts as" rules, and do not change any other rules.

Here's a bad guy swap:

Goblins -> Goblins
Orcs -> Armoured Orcs (BattleMasters)
Wolfriders -> Wolfriders
Beastmen -> Orcs (HeroQuest)
Chaos Warriors -> Black Orcs
Chaos Lord -> Orc Boss on Boar
Ogre -> Ogre
Chaos Knights -> Orc Boar Riders
Thug Archers -> Goblin Archers

Absolutely.

But maybe it would be possible without changing to much.
The Imperial Lords, from the same expansion, had also special rules:
5 Combat dice, but only 1 hitpoint.
So, maybe in this manner: Just changing combat dice and hitpoints.
But as you said the game is good as it is.

Btw:It would have been interesting to see how an Advanced Battle Masters had turned out. It's the only Baker-GW production that hasn't an "advance treatment". Like Space Crusade or Heroquest.

They had that one allready: Warhammer. But I like Warmaster more...
