Ok, I pre-ordered this just about the second it came up on the P500. I'm curious though if it's going to have a mounted mapboard? Yes I have my handy dandy plexiglass for paper maps but I've liked the mounted mapboards for Washington's War and Sword of Rome so much that I really would like one for Virgin Queen as well. The description on GMT's website doesn't mention one but with a retail price of $89 ($59 for us pre-orders) which is $29 more than Washington's War which did have mounted mapboard I'm thinking that it likely will have one. Does anyone know for sure one way or the other?

I'm guessing it'll depend on pre-order numbers. However, given it's already over 430 after only a day and a half, it might well be so.

Also, the MSRP is the same as the second printing of Here I Stand, which has a mounted map.

On point, given the mounted board release of HiS, I think it would be difficult for them to release Virgin Queen without one. It would be like producing a car without airbags. Can't do it - the buying public expects 'em.

Well, I believe airbags have been required by federal law since the late 90s. Mounted mapboards would make lousy airbags though unless they were really seriously mounted.

Considering the price point and pre-order popularity of this game, I would be pretty floored if it didn't get the deluxe treatment though.

Excellent news. I've already pre-ordered and wouldn't quibble either way, but I'm always glad to hear about an upgrade.

Gene,

It's taken a long time but, I'm glad that GMT now realise that there are some old diehard wargamers that appreciate mounted maps.

KUDOS to GMT...

In fact...

From an online play perspective it don't make much odds, but I guess the box will be a bit heavier...

Might have one of the larger Combat Commander sized boxes. Doesn't the new edition of Here I Stand have one of those?

The 2nd printing of HIS does have a larger box, yes. No idea if it's the size of CC box, but it is about the size of a CC:A one.

The main reason for that is a spacer insert though. If they don't bother with that, it should fit in a normal box fine.
