Jerks, Douchebags, et cetera. We know they're out there but just how great are there numbers. In this post I will have several polls each with a community, please put the percentage of a$$holes that you think are in that community. If you want to tell me why you voted how you voted, tell me below.
I voted pretty high on most of these questions. At this point in my life, I've come to the conclusion that the world is full of people trying to take the most while contributing the least, whether this be via politics, economics, religion, or education, and being an asshole is an inherent part of that process. (What people get and what people deserve seem to be waaay out of whack.) As more and more people get good at this, the more socially acceptable bad behavior becomes, which perpetuates the cycle.
I hate being the crusty old cynic, but I've found scant evidence to convince me otherwise.
I think we need to attribute weight to the a$$holes. Generally, I think most people are ok. BUT, the a$$holes manage to get themselves into higher positions by virtue of their tactics. Through the use of this vantage, they often do the most damage.
Think of it this way: most people who drive are ok but the a$$hole is the one who will almost kill you.
Depends...do you mean a$$holes in person? Or a$$holes on a message board? I'd say the going from the latter to the former increases the percentage by about 50-60. The same people who aren't a-holes in person have no problem being one on a MB.
