Hi all,

I am sure there is Geeklist out there with a list to a bunch of games that finish in under an hour. I just can't find it.

We are super busy in our household from March thru June, as both of my sons play lacrosse and soccer. We don't have a lot of extra time for gaming, between school work and practice and games. So we've been playing more of our shorter games lately, trying to squeeze them in when we have time.

I could use some suggestions on some new games to add to our growing collection that finish in under an hour or so, 2-4 player, age 10+. It seems like we play those types of games the most right now. In the summer/winter we have a little more free time and we enjoy some of our games that take longer to play.

Here's what we've been playing :

Samurai
The Climbers
Pandemic
Jaipur
Monopoly Deal
RFTG
Dominion
Carcassonne
7 Wonders

What are you all playing in under an hour?

Neuroshima Hex! 3.0 should fit in very well.

Alien Frontiers may well run over an hour on the first play or two but once you've got it down it plays in an hour with 4.

If you like trick taking card games then I think you'll love Sluff Off! (which is currently out as Wizard Extreme).

Chicago express and Forbidden Island are my go-to's in that time frame (after RFTG, but you're playing that already).

Currently enjoying Survive: Escape from Atlantis, Poo, and Kids of Carcassonne for the kid.

Cat in the Sack or For Sale are both fun quick games. Cat in the Sack has caused several rage quits, however.

Ingenious plays in under an hour, and scales from 2-4 players really well.

Good suggestions so far, thanks.

I have Alien Frontiers on order.

4 player Small World and Fresco takes over an hour for us, and the set up takes a bit too.

I have quite a few that have been suggested, but there are some I'm going to look at some more. I haven't played Thebes, Finca, Archeology,Ingenious, or Chicago Express.

I was also thinking of Revolution!

We have Puerto Rico, so I haven't bought San Juan yet. But we don't play Puerto Rico as much we should because it takes a bit to finish. And I'd probably rather play San Juan than RFTG (which I don't really like).

Revolution! isn't a game that I tend to think of for recommendations as I don't own it and have only played it once (and that was awhile ago). However I did really enjoy it when I played it, and given that I got my arse well and truly kicked by everyone else at the table that's probably a sign that the game is pretty good!

Revolution is one of my favourite designs. What an elegant game and so involving for 45mins. You have to have 3-4 players though.

Most card-only games qualify. We quite like Glory to Rome, which plays like a more interactive RftG.

Oregon is a fast-ish board game with tiles and meeples.

+1 for Dominion, RftG, and 7 Wonders. Those are all excellent choices.

I would also watch for Eminent Domain (45 min) and Homesteaders. Homesteaders would push it a bit at first for the 1 hour mark bu after everyone learns the game and you get the set up figured out it usually takes an hour for us. There is a new edition coming out pretty soon too.

You could also consider Tigris & Euphrates. 4 player games can take up to 90 minutes but it's not too hard to move faster as long as everyone is in that mindset. Some people even say the game is at its best when you don't get a long time to make a move. We played a 4 player game entirely in 45 minutes once. Lots of fun.

Apart from other great recommendation suggested already, surprisingly, Hansa Teutonica can be played in less than an hour. Sometimes people play it during lunch time/hour.

Have a look at it and let us know with what you've decided at the end.
