Perhaps somewhat oddly, my mental image of Roobarb was fairly Ferrel. Now it is cemented.

Very good to hear from you, Roob.

FYI, if you press the "caps lock" key again, you can get lower case letters.

If you could touch the alien sand and hear the cries of strange birds and watch them wheel in another sky, would that satisfy you?

very good question and i think probably the best post on this thread so far
in a word no i wouldn't
but for the reasons i have stated above what has happed is almost as bad
i wish i had the money to buy the rights to this game and support it in way
it so richly deserves
i feel passionately about this game like no other i have come across
i remember when i first read the rules i felt like Salieri in the film Amadeus when he reads through Mozarts score the music playing in his head

I'm just about as passionate about this game as well Roobarb. I have to say that was quite the analogy for me - awesome!

I know what you mean, I felt that way when I read the rules for Android.

At least its not dead...yet...right? I mean, you gotta give FFG some credit for keeping it somewhat alive and chugging along. Sure they haven't revealed long term strategic goals for the game, but they really never do that for any games, not really.

As far as I can tell its still alive. 3 new releases within the past 6 months (albeit overpriced releases), is not an indication of a dead game to me.

I just bought my first army expansions. I got the French 100 years war, and Code of Chivalry to go with it. (I've never been impressed with the goblins and dwarves, though I have softened my criticism of them a bit with Battle Savvy rules.) I showed my wife (my Battlelore partner, who has played over 20 games with me) the beautiful insert for 100 years war which holds the pre-glued figures and pre-stickered flags hermetically. We were both very impressed with the Days of Wonder treatment. Then I showed her FFG's Code of Chivalry.

"What are these?" she asked.

"Those are the stickers for the flags."

"What?!?" She rolled her eyes. "You have to put your own stickers on? And you paid money for this?"

Also keep in mind what has transpired to the global economic picture since DOW sold it to FFG almost 3 years ago. Raw costs have gone up, fuel has gone up. These are reflected in the price as well. So if DOW had this still, it would be a safe bet they would be charging the same as FFG, if not more.

FFG has already explained the problems they have with this. It was basically a loss-leader that both DOW and the manufacturer took a hit on. FFG produces a heck of a lot more plastic in any given year and should know the costs associated with it.

We may never know exactly why DOW dumped this line. But my feeling is that these costs were starting to hurt them. If it was a sustainable game, why would they have felt the need to get rid of it? Sure they didn't have the manpower to devote to the beast they created but in all reality, I don't think FFG has that much manpower assigned to it either.

So I wish FFG would quit treating it like the red-headed step-child. But they have done a heck of lot more for the game in the past 2.5 years than DOW did in the first 2.5 years. I for one am glad they took it over and satisfied with what has transpired so far. Hopefully it continues.

I fully understand that the economic situation just isn't what it used to be, and I was fully aware of the sticker/glue situation when I bought the expansion. Nevertheless, it was a bit disheartening to open them side by side.

And so was I. I would rather pay more to have it done right, but having talked to FFG about this, the price would be significantly higher to keep doing it this way. It would completely price the expansions out of the market and people are complaining enough already.

I don't mind the stickering. Heck, you have hundreds more to deal with in each GMT game/expansion. But since any old glue won't do, that becomes the major problem.
