I was talking to my wife the other day and she mentioned how much she likes dice games. I asked her to explain what it was about dice games that she enjoyed and she offered the following:

mbShe likes unique dice: colorful D20s, one-off type dice like the massive purple dice that comes with Steve Jackson's Cthulu Dice, etc.
mbShe likes the randomness/gambling aspect of dice games.
mbShe likes the speed of dice games, it's easy to fire off a couple fun games without a lot of setup.

Here are the dice games we currently own:

mbZombie Dice
mbCthulhu Dice
mbDragon Dice

She really enjoys Zombie and Cthulhu Dice... tonight after work I'm going to get out my old Dragon Dice set and take that for a spin (I'm pretty confident it'll rank highly too).

Based off this... what would you recommend? I'm looking for games where the primary mechanic and the bulk of the components are dice. Stone Age, for example, is a dice-based game but it's also a large game with a big board and a bunch of extra stuff that goes with it. Zombie Dice by contrast is just a handful of dice.

Although I'm putting an emphasis on fast/simple if you know of a good game that pushes the limits of that but is worth the trade off, that's fine. My wife is a gamer and happily plays Puerto Rico, Race for the Galaxy, Arkham Horror, and other games with me. I'm most interested in dice games because she seems to enjoy them so much not because that's the upper limit of her tolerance for gaming.

Also... if you know of any Print and Play games or such that just require a nice set of dice to go with them I'd happily buy her a set of Game Science dice for a PnP game.

Thanks guys!

Troyes is an excellent game that would bring together the dice fetish with the Euro board game interest nicely, though it's just a bunch of different coloured D6's. More in the vein of what you mean, both Risk and Monopoly Express are pretty good fast games with custom D6s.

Stone Age is a probably the most requested dice game my group plays; it is ranked as a few of our player's favorite game. It only has D6s but you do get a cool leather dice cup for rolling them.

Other good dice games I've played are Airships, Roll Through the Ages: The Bronze Age and Kingsburg. Troyes is one that's getting some good buzz but I haven't played yet.

These are all euro-style games and generally fall into the 45-60 mins category so may not be as super quick to play as you're looking for here.

As above, Roll Through the Ages and Stone Age are definitely things you want.

It's not quick or simple, but the World of Warcraft board game has a ton of dice, and its large expansion adds more.

Keep your eyes open for Quarriors!. It's not out yet, but it should certainly tickle any dice fetish out there.

I would also encourage Dice Town...it can be a riot with the right group who gets into it.

Alea Iacta Est is a great game.

Even though I prefer games like Roll Through the Ages or Stone Age, I think these are better suggestions for the O.P.'s wife. I'll add a couple along the same lines:

Dancing Dice
Cosmic Cows
Liar's Dice (a.k.a. Perudo)

I highly recommend Can't Stop. The game is defined by rolling dice and pushing your luck!

Bonus: My wife loves that game. And it's super easy to make your own home version too. Just check out the board on BGG and make one yourself.

Obviously she needs DICEcapades. I'm a bit of a dice fan myself, and I constantly have to keep myself from purchasing this when I go Target.

My wife and I play Pass the Pigs quite a bit. You cant get much more unique than pigs as dice and it is an incredibly quick play.

Manila might not have fancy pants dice... but it's a fantastic game and usually ends up full of hootin' and hollerin' at the table.

Try out this pnp game. While I haven't played it yet all it'll cost you is a sheet of paper (or two if you want 3-4 payers) and it looks quite fun. It's called Alchemy Academdy

Since you specifically mention PnP, you could print off a copy of Mountain Climber and get some pretty dice to go with it. It's very lightweight, tends to be fairly quick, and doesn't have gobs of components to set up. It's mostly push your luck and risk management, with a tiny bit of guess what the competition is going to do next.

I like Yahtzee Free for All.

It's good for a light game and is a step up from regular Yahtzee in interactivity. You get to steal other players points by getting a better set for the cards they claim.
