We need to think of a name for a project. It may (key word) have a global reach, and we therefore need to check if there are negative connotations when the name is read in other languages.

We brainstormed and one of the top choices was "kaki". A preliminary search on the web revealed that "kaki" is slang for "poo" in Hungarian. My questions are:

i) Is what we found on the web true?
ii) If yes, is the slang still very common in Hungary, or is it relatively obscure now?
iii) If you see a project launched in Hungary under the name "kaki", would that invite ridicule? Would the average Hungarian find it offensive?

Thanks!

yes, it is poo.

so:

1. yes
2. yes, very common. mostly for children. Adults tend to use the equivalent of "sh*t"
3. part 1: yes part two: not really offensive, but WEIRD (especially if the game is not about poo)

About Hebrew slang I have no clue.

This book IS about poo:

It's a definite yes on all of your questions. 'Poo' is the exact translation, it's the kiddish version of 'shit'.
While it wouldn't offend anyone, the reaction would be the same that would be with any other culture. Some would be amused, most would be indifferent, and there would be definitely some ridicule included. For a print and play project it's a fine title, however it's improbable it would pass for a commercial product.

Edit: Shit, leaxe was faster

Thank you to both of you for your replies.

Out of curiosity, may I ask what the second word in the title of the book mean?

könyv = book

And a funny coincidence, I got a reply to one of my topics by a user named "kakita"

I suppose for you it is this meaning:

"A spirit guide, a compassionate friend" (wikipedia)

or you could have said "Kaki, leaxe was faster" (which sounds ultra-weird)
